The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced one vacancy for the post of Scientist-B (Mechanical) in the National Test House, under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Position Details:

• Post: Scientist-B (Mechanical)
• Number of Vacancies: 01 (One)
• Reservation: UR (Unreserved)
• Suitability for PwBD: The post is suitable only for certain categories of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) – specifically Leprosy Cured (LC), Dwarfism (DW), and Acid Attack Victims (AAV). No reservation is provided for PwBD in this post.

Pay Scale:

• Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC (Pre-revised Pay Band-3: ₹15,600 – 39,100 + Grade Pay ₹5,400)

Age Limit:

• 35 years for UR candidates (as on the closing date of application)
• Age relaxation applicable as per Government of India rules.

Essential Qualifications:

Option 1:

• Master’s Degree in Physics from a recognized University or Institute; and
• One year practical experience in the testing/calibration of engineering materials/products or in precision measurements/metrology in a recognized laboratory or institute.

Option 2:

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute; and
• Two years’ practical experience in the testing/calibration of engineering materials/products or in precision measurements/metrology in a recognized laboratory or institute.

Desirable Qualification:

• Research and Development experience in testing of engineering materials and metrology/calibration of instruments and machines.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Overall in-charge of the Mechanical discipline in the laboratory.
• Scrutinize test requests and allocate samples to Scientific Officers and Assistants.
• Supervise technical and administrative work.
• Check draft test certificates and sign final test certificates.
• Initiate purchase cases and assist Scientist ‘C’ in technical, purchase, and administrative matters.

• Service Liability: All India Service Liability (liable to serve in any Regional Office of National Test House)
