What is UPPCS 2026?
The Uttar Pradesh Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Examination 2026 (popularly known as UPPCS 2026 or UPPSC PCS 2026) is one of the most prestigious and competitive state civil services examinations in India. Conducted annually by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), Prayagraj, it recruits officers for various Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ posts in the Uttar Pradesh state administration.
Successful candidates are appointed to coveted positions such as Deputy Collector (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Block Development Officer (BDO), Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Commercial Tax Officer, Naib Tehsildar, Assistant Labour Commissioner, and many more administrative and executive roles that directly impact governance and public service delivery across Uttar Pradesh.
With approximately 500 vacancies announced in the official notification released on 25 June 2026, the examination offers a direct path to a respected career in public administration with excellent pay scales, job security, and opportunities to serve the people of India’s most populous state.
UPPCS 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Before filling the application form, every aspirant must thoroughly understand and satisfy all the eligibility conditions laid down in the official notification. Ineligible candidates’ applications are liable to be rejected at any stage.
Nationality & Domicile Requirement
A candidate must be a citizen of India. This is the basic nationality requirement.
Important Note on Domicile:
- Reservation benefits (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, horizontal reservations) and age relaxations are available only to candidates who are permanent residents / domiciled in Uttar Pradesh.
- Candidates belonging to other states will be treated as General category candidates. They are not entitled to any reservation or age relaxation even if they belong to reserved categories in their home state.
- UP Domicile Certificate is mandatory for claiming reservation benefits. It must be issued by the competent authority of Uttar Pradesh.

Exact Date of Birth Criteria (General Category)
Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02 July 1986 and not later than 01 July 2005 (as on 01.07.2026).
For reserved categories, the upper age limit is relaxed accordingly. Always verify your exact eligibility with the official notification PDF available on uppsc.up.nic.in.
Educational Qualification
As on the last date of application (27 July 2026)
For most posts: A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or Institution established by law in India is the minimum educational qualification required.
Final year students of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. However, they must possess the required degree/mark sheet at the time of filling the Detailed Application Form (DAF) for the Mains Examination.
Post-Specific Additional Qualifications (Examples)
Important: Candidates must carefully read the official advertisement for the exact qualification required for each post they are applying for and correctly indicate their eligibility/preference in the application form. Wrong selection of posts can lead to rejection later.
Other Important Eligibility Requirements
Working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script is compulsory for certain posts (especially those related to law, prosecution, and administration). It is tested during document verification or interview for relevant posts.
For posts like DSP, Excise Inspector, Jail Superintendent etc., there are prescribed physical standards (height, chest measurement, physical efficiency test). Details are mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must ensure they meet these before applying.
All selected candidates must be in good mental and physical health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the discharge of duties. A medical examination is conducted before final appointment.
Reservation Policy in UPPCS 2026
Reservation in UPPCS follows the Uttar Pradesh Government’s reservation policy. It is implemented through vertical and horizontal reservations as per constitutional provisions and state government orders.
Category-wise Reservation
Note: These percentages are indicative as per standard UP Govt policy. Exact roster points and category-wise vacancies are published in the official advertisement.
Key Point: If a candidate belongs to SC/ST/OBC/EWS category of another state, they will be considered under the General category for UPPCS 2026. They will not get the benefit of reservation or age relaxation. Always upload the correct category certificate issued by UP authorities if claiming reservation.
Documents Required for UPPCS 2026 Application

- Scanned signature (black ink on white paper)
- Class 10th / High School mark sheet & certificate (for age proof)
- Graduation degree / mark sheets
- Valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport / Driving Licence)
- Category certificate (if applicable) – SC/ST/OBC/EWS issued by UP competent authority
Additional (If Claiming Reservation / Relaxation)
- UP Domicile Certificate
- PwD Certificate (with benchmark disability percentage)
- Ex-Servicemen Discharge Book / Service Certificate
- Skilled Sports Person Certificate from competent authority

- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current employer (if employed in Govt/PSU)
How to Apply for UPPCS 2026 – Step by Step
The entire application process is online only through the official UPPSC website. There is no offline mode. The process is OTR (One Time Registration) based.
- Visit otr.pariksha.nic.in (or access via UPPSC website).
- Enter basic details: Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Email ID.
- Verify mobile and email through OTP.
- Create password and complete registration.
- Save your unique OTR Number safely. This is your permanent registration ID for all future UPPSC applications.
- Go to the official website: uppsc.up.nic.in
- Navigate to “Notifications / Advertisements” or “Active Examinations” section.
- Find the link for “COMBINED STATE / UPPER SUBORDINATE SERVICES (PCS) (GENERAL/SPECIAL RECRUITMENT) EXAMINATION-2026” (Advt. No. A-1/E-1/2026).
- Click on “Apply” and authenticate using your OTR number / credentials.
- Your basic details will be auto-populated from the OTR database.

Payment Mode: Online only through State Bank of India (SBI) Multi Option Payment System (MOPS) – Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, etc.
Note: Fee once paid is non-refundable. Women candidates, dependents of freedom fighters, and skilled players are charged fee according to their original category.
A separate fee will be applicable for the Mains Examination when the Detailed Application Form (DAF) is invited from qualified Prelims candidates (General/EWS/OBC ≈ ₹225, SC/ST ≈ ₹105, PwD ≈ ₹25).
UPPCS 2026 Selection Process Overview
Objective type examination consisting of two papers:
- Paper-I General Studies (GS) — 150 Qs, 200 Marks, 2 Hours
- Paper-II CSAT (Aptitude) — 100 Qs, 200 Marks, 2 Hours (Qualifying – 33% minimum required)
Negative marking: 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer. GS Paper-I is used for merit; CSAT is qualifying in nature.
Descriptive written examination with 8 papers (total 1500 marks):
100 marks interview to assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, and suitability for administrative roles.
Final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Mains (written) + Interview. Prelims marks are not counted for final merit.
