Preliminary examination
Strategy: Secure each qualifying section; devote deep study time to GA + ESI + ARD, whose scores determined Mains shortlisting under the 2025 scheme. Cut-offs also matter.
Mains, psychometric & interview
Paper I · Descriptive English
3 questions · 100 marks · 90 minutes. Essay, précis, comprehension and business/office correspondence.
Paper II · ESI + ARD objective
30 questions · 50 marks · 30 minutes. Some questions carried 2 marks.
Paper II · ESI + ARD descriptive
50 marks · 90 minutes. Answer 4 of 6 questions: 2 × 15 marks + 2 × 10 marks.
Psychometric test + interview
Mandatory 90-minute psychometric assessment; interview of 50 marks in the 2025 scheme.
For objective questions, the 2025 advertisement prescribed a penalty of ¼ of the question’s marks for each wrong answer. Final ranking combined Mains and interview as specified in that notice.
Scope: the figures above describe RDBS General. Specialist, Legal and Protocol & Security streams have different Paper II or other structures. Source: NABARD official 2025 advertisement, pp. 14–18. Do not treat these figures as a confirmed new-cycle notification.

The 90-day preparation operating system.
Build a practical daily allocation, follow three learning phases and tick off the essential milestones. The plan adapts to your available study hours.
Your study allocation
Use this for an ordinary preparation day; weekly mock-test days should be adjusted separately.
The schedule is a recommended time split, not a prediction of exam outcomes. Reserve one day each week for mock + error analysis.
Four phases of measurable progress
- WEEKS 1–3Foundation. ARD basics, Indian economy, banking essentials; baseline aptitude and typed-English diagnosis.
- WEEKS 4–6Coverage. Soil, farming systems, livestock, irrigation; ESI development, schemes, poverty and financial inclusion.
- WEEKS 7–9Application. Mixed sectional practice, rural current affairs, topic-specific error revision and alternate-day descriptive answers.
- WEEKS 10–12Exam simulation. Full mocks, cut-off protection, timed descriptive papers, scheme updates and concentrated weak-topic repair.
- DAYS 85–90Final consolidation. Revise only curated notes, answer frameworks, recurring mistakes and official updates. Avoid starting whole new books.
Use the remaining 6 days for a final consolidation block; study-day count may vary by calendar.
Knowledge milestones
Tick as mastered, not merely opened.
Practice milestones

Complete Preparation Guide
The broadest reading route: all-paper preparation planning, core concepts and revision.
Best for an integrated study path.

Agriculture & Rural Development
Subject-focused ARD reference for agriculture, allied sectors and rural development.
Best for merit-section depth.

Soil Science, Soil Health & Conservation
Deep-dive companion to soils, moisture, fertility and sustainable management.
Best for a weak soil-science unit.

Nature of Indian Economy & Economic Reforms
An ESI-focused resource for reform, growth and development perspectives.
Best for ESI conceptual foundations.
Book-cover images are promotional previews; they do not establish that a particular printed/digital edition is currently purchasable. Purchase only via a live product listing showing its format, price, delivery and refund conditions.
Study the way a regulator thinks.
Link agricultural facts to economics, rural institutions and policy outcomes. This creates better recall in objective questions and stronger arguments in descriptive answers.
Soil & water example
Soil structure, texture, organic carbon and micro-irrigation are connected. Do not memorise their definitions in isolation.
- What changes infiltration or water retention?
- Which practice controls runoff on sloping land?
- How do these affect farm productivity?
Credit & development example
Credit access is not only about lending volumes. Compare affordability, delivery channels, risk, SHG participation and inclusion.
- Who intermediates rural credit?
- What is the difference between credit and refinance?
- How does group lending affect access?
ESI answer framework
For a descriptive question, structure the answer around the problem, evidence, implementation and measurable outcomes.
- Define issue and rural context.
- Give 2–3 causal mechanisms.
- Evaluate trade-offs, end with a feasible way forward.
“How can watershed development and institutional credit improve climate resilience among small and marginal farmers?” Try a 15-mark answer with introduction, three mechanisms, implementation constraints and a balanced conclusion. This is an original practice prompt, not a claimed NABARD PYQ.
12 original questions. Explanations that teach.
Use this diagnostic set to test concepts across ARD, ESI and judgement. It is not a past-year NABARD paper or a substitute for a full-length timed mock.
Answers without the guesswork.
Clarifications on exam stages, preparation depth, content provenance and book availability.
Is the NABARD Grade A 2026–27 notification officially out?
Do not rely on unverified claims about a fresh 2026–27 Assistant Manager notice. This hub uses the official 2025 advertisement as a historical exam-format reference. Check NABARD Career Notices for the next recruitment cycle.
Which sections counted for Phase-I merit in the 2025 Grade A General exam?
The 2025 RDBS General notice placed General Awareness (20 marks), ESI (40) and ARD (40) in the merit section. Reasoning, English, Computer Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Decision Making were qualifying sections; prescribed cut-offs still applied.
Is ARD more important than Quantitative Aptitude?
For the referenced pattern, ARD contributed 40 merit marks, while Quantitative Aptitude was a qualifying section of 20 marks. That makes ARD a deeper study priority, but failing a required qualifying cut-off remains a serious risk.
Can a beginner with no agriculture background prepare?
Yes, a beginner can build the required knowledge systematically. Start with agronomy, soil, crop seasons and institutional credit before moving to schemes, agri economics, integrated current affairs and exam-style application questions.
How should I prepare for descriptive English?
Practise typing structured essays, précis, comprehension and business/office correspondence. Use timed drills, clear introductions, focused paragraphs, correct language and a short edit pass.
Are the practice questions on this page official PYQs?
No. The on-page questions are original concept-check questions. The separate CrackTarget PYQ-analysis page discusses previous-question themes; the official NABARD notice warns that the bank does not release its test papers publicly after the examination.
Can I buy the four pictured books now?
These images are book-cover previews provided for this page. Check each item’s live product listing in the CrackTarget shop for whether it is actually on sale, digital or printed, with current pricing and delivery terms.
Does my progress save to my CrackTarget account?
No. This standalone hub stores checklist progress locally in your current browser and device only. Clearing site data or using a different device may reset it; no cross-device synchronisation is advertised.
