UPSC Ayurveda 2025 solved question paper

This complete UPSC Ayurveda 2025 solved paper brings together all 150 MCQs from Booklet A, followed by editorial explanations, revision cues and source references. It is designed for Ayurvedic Medical Officer, Ayurvedic Physician and related recruitment-test preparation. Sanskrit transliterations are lightly standardised for readability; question numbering and the A–D option order follow the supplied booklet.

Answer-key status: These are CrackTarget editorial solutions, not an official UPSC answer key. A matching official 2025 key was not located during the check on 25 October 2026. Seven text-specific answers remain provisional; five items have important wording/evidence qualifications; Q137 has no anatomically exact printed option. These 13 items remain available for study and are excluded from the practice score. The booklet’s nominal maximum is 300 marks; the scored practice subset is 137 questions / 274 marks. Source references marked as text references identify what to consult; they do not imply independent passage verification.

Study with a purpose

Attempt before opening the solution. Read the explanation, follow a linked concept where needed, and write one short correction in your error log. Several questions test the exact author and verse context rather than a broadly familiar clinical association.

Practice with the paper’s penalty

Each scored correct response earns 2 marks. A wrong response loses ⅔ mark, one-third of the marks for that question. Unanswered questions score zero. The timer allows 120 minutes; bookmarks, review flags and subject filters help organise a later revision pass.

Educational exam revision only. Classical treatment passages are presented as historical/textual answers, not instructions for treating patients. Modern infant care, pregnancy care, poisoning and clinical emergencies require current clinical guidance.

Quick editorial answer grid · 150 questions

Questions 1–20 · Read the author and context before deciding.

QUESTION 001 / 150

Panchamahabhuta in the embryo

According to Acarya Caraka, which statement about Pancamahabhuta Vikara in Garbha is correct?

Choose an answer for question 1
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Laghava and Sauksmya are by Akasa Mahabhuta; Dhatu Vyuhana is by Vayu Mahabhuta.

Akasa accounts for lightness, subtlety and the provision of space in Caraka’s embryological description. Vayu accounts for movement and the arrangement of the body’s constituents. The question tests the allocation stated by the text, so general associations such as “Vayu is light” should not replace the specific Garbha list.

Revision cue: Pair this with Q130: Akasa—Viveka; Vayu—Dhatuvyuhana.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4, Mahatigarbhavakranti, verse 12.

QUESTION 002 / 150

Meaning of Sarataroccayah

“Sarataroccayah” indicates the nature of which text?

Choose an answer for question 2
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Astanga Hrdaya

Vagbhata describes Astanga Hrdaya as a gathering of the most useful essence of earlier, widely dispersed treatises. The expression is part of the opening account of how the work was composed. It identifies Astanga Hrdaya, rather than one of the earlier compendia from which its material was selected.

Revision cue: Sarataroccayah = collection of the choicest essence; remember the author Vagbhata.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 1, introductory description.

QUESTION 003 / 150

Basis of the five Chayas

According to Acarya Caraka, the types of Chaya are described on the basis of which of the following?

Choose an answer for question 3
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Panca Mahabhuta

The five kinds of Chaya are classified by their relationship with the five Mahabhutas. In prognostic assessment, Chaya denotes a characteristic shade or appearance and must be distinguished from Prabha and from an ordinary description of skin colour. The fivefold elemental basis is the identifying feature here.

Revision cue: Chaya: five elemental types; do not substitute the three Doshas.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Indriya Sthana 7, Chaya and Prabha.

QUESTION 004 / 150

Do not frighten a child

“Na hyasya vitrasanam sadhu” is mentioned in Caraka Samhita for whom?

Choose an answer for question 4
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Kumara

The instruction belongs to the care of children. Caraka advises that a crying or unwilling child should not be frightened into obedience by invoking frightening beings. The quotation therefore concerns Kumara. It is a child-care instruction, rather than a general diagnostic sign of a psychiatric disorder.

Revision cue: Link the phrase to Jatisutriya Sharira and compassionate child care.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 8.64.

QUESTION 005 / 150

Jnapaka among the four treatment pillars

According to Astanga Hrdaya, “Jnapakah” is a Guna of which of the following?

Choose an answer for question 5
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Rogi

Jnapaka is the patient’s ability to communicate relevant information about the illness. Vagbhata lists it among the desirable qualities of the Rogi, alongside the capacity to follow the physician and mental steadiness. It should not be confused with the learning and practical competence expected of the physician.

Revision cue: Rogi qualities include Adhya, Bhisagvasya, Jnapaka and Sattvavan.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 1.29.

QUESTION 006 / 150

Plihavrddhi in Dhatu-kshaya

According to Acarya Susruta, Plihavrddhi occurs in which condition?

Choose an answer for question 6
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Medahksaya

Susruta includes enlargement of the spleen among the signs of depletion of Medas. The same discussion also mentions dryness and a sense of emptiness in the joints. Although the spleen is associated with Rakta in other contexts, the question asks for this specific depletion sign.

Revision cue: An organ’s structural association and a Dhatu-kshaya symptom list are different recall tasks.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 15, features of Medas depletion.

QUESTION 007 / 150

Satmyaja contribution to Garbha

In the context of Garbha, “Sampraharsabhuyastvam” is due to which Bhava according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 7
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Satmyaja Bhava

The expression is placed in the Satmyaja contribution to fetal development. The examination trap is to classify every reference to happiness or cheerfulness as Sattvaja merely because it sounds psychological. In questions on Garbhakara Bhavas, use the actual textual enumeration rather than the everyday meaning of an isolated word.

Revision cue: Compare Satmyaja Indriyaprasada with the Sattvaja traits tested again in Q131.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 3, Satmyaja Bhavas.

QUESTION 008 / 150

Upaplava versus Viyoga

As per Caraka Samhita, Upaplava is considered as what?

Choose an answer for question 8
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Duhkhagama

In the discussion of Purusha and Loka, Upaplava means the arrival of suffering. The dissolution or separation of the constituent elements is Viyoga, associated with the end of life. Thus Duhkhagama, rather than Jivapagama, is the appropriate meaning of Upaplava in this passage.

Revision cue: Upaplava—onset of suffering; Viyoga—separation.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 5.8.

QUESTION 009 / 150

Foremost Pranavardhana

Which is considered the best “Praninam Pranavardhananam” by Acarya Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 9
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Ahimsa

Ahimsa is the relevant Agryadravya/Agrya principle in this enumeration: non-injury preserves the lives of living beings. The alternatives may have value elsewhere in the text, but this question requires the exact pairing, not a general judgment about which habit appears beneficial.

Revision cue: For Agrya questions, learn the complete subject–predicate pair.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 25, Agrya collection.

QUESTION 010 / 150

Classification of Virudha

According to Acarya Caraka, Virudha is a type of which category?

Choose an answer for question 10
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Audbhida

Virudha belongs to the plant-origin, or Audbhida, category. Audbhida substances are further classified into botanical growth forms, including Vanaspati, Vanaspatya, Virudha and Ausadhi. Jangama denotes animal origin and Parthiva denotes mineral or earth-derived origin; neither fits this classification.

Revision cue: Keep origin-based categories separate from plant-growth subcategories.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 1, classification of substances.

QUESTION 011 / 150

Drstartha classification

According to Acarya Caraka, Drstartha is a type of which of the following?

Choose an answer for question 11
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Sabda

In the terminology used in learned discussion, Sabda is differentiated into Drstartha and Adrstartha. Drstartha concerns a matter whose import is observable in this world. The presence of “Drsta” in the term does not by itself make it a subtype of Pratyaksa; the classification asked for is that of verbal statement.

Revision cue: Read the category before interpreting the literal word.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Vimana Sthana 8, discussion of Sabda.

QUESTION 012 / 150

Definition of Aitihya

Which Acarya mentioned “Aitihyam namaptopadeso vedadih”?

Choose an answer for question 12
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Caraka

The definition occurs in Caraka’s Rogabhisagjitiya Vimana. Aitihya is explained as authoritative traditional instruction, with the Vedas as an example. This belongs to the terminology of reasoning and debate discussed in the chapter; the quoted formulation identifies Caraka among the options.

Revision cue: Aitihya—Aptopadesa—Veda: remember this chain.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Vimana Sthana 8.41.

QUESTION 013 / 150

Fire from churning: which Pramana?

“Mathya, Manthana(ka), Manthana samyogad agni sambhavah” is an example of which Pramana in Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 13
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Yukti

Yukti recognises a result that depends on the planned combination of several causal factors. Producing fire through the appropriate churning apparatus illustrates that joint causation. The example is not merely seeing fire directly or repeating an authoritative statement; its emphasis is the coordinated arrangement of causes.

Revision cue: Yukti: multiple factors combine to produce an outcome.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 11, explanation of Yukti.

QUESTION 014 / 150

Samyoga Viruddha example

Which is the example of Samyoga Viruddha mentioned in Caraka Samhita?

Choose an answer for question 14
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Amla Rasa with milk

Amla substances combined with milk illustrate incompatibility of combination. Equal quantities of honey and ghee are the classic Matra Viruddha trap, because quantity is decisive. Heating curd concerns a different incompatibility context. The task is to identify the named category, not simply an incompatible practice.

Revision cue: Samyoga = combination; Matra = quantity.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 26, Viruddhahara.

QUESTION 015 / 150

Viyogah sarva samyogaih

In what context did Acarya Caraka mention “Viyogah sarva samyogaih”?

Choose an answer for question 15
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Moksa

The phrase describes Moksa as freedom from all binding associations. Here it belongs to the philosophical discussion of liberation from suffering, not simply physical death. The latter can be discussed as the separation of bodily constituents elsewhere, which makes Mrtyu an attractive but inappropriate distractor.

Revision cue: Distinguish spiritual liberation from the ordinary dissolution of the body.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 1, discussion of Moksa.

QUESTION 016 / 150

Kushtha chiefly on the chest

Caraka uses “Prayena corasi” for which type of Kustha?

Choose an answer for question 16
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Sidhma

The wording refers to Sidhma, whose lesions are described with fine scaling and a typical occurrence on the chest. “Prayena” means chiefly or commonly, rather than exclusively. The anatomical qualifier is the quickest discriminator here; do not confuse it with the colour-based description of another Kushtha.

Revision cue: Site cue: Sidhma—chiefly the chest.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 7, Sidhma description.

QUESTION 017 / 150

Season for Sudha latex collection

Which Rtu is specifically suggested for collecting Sudha Ksira in Caraka Samhita?

Choose an answer for question 17
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Sisirante

Sudha Kalpa specifies collection of the latex at the end of Sisira, from a plant of the prescribed maturity. “End of winter” in an English translation should be mapped back to the actual Sanskrit seasonal term. Hemanta and Sisira are distinct seasons in the six-season framework.

Revision cue: Sisira-ante is the exact seasonal cue.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Kalpa Sthana 10.9.

QUESTION 018 / 150

Trividha Roga Visesa Vijnana

What is included in Caraka’s “Trividham roga visesa vijnaniyam”?

Choose an answer for question 18
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Aptopadesa, Pratyaksa, Anumana

The three methods are authoritative instruction, direct observation and inference. These complement each other when determining the particular features of disease. Although Yukti and Upamana appear in wider discussions of knowledge and reasoning, they do not replace a member of this specific diagnostic triad.

Revision cue: Diagnostic triad: Aptopadesa → Pratyaksa → Anumana.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Vimana Sthana 4, Trividha Roga Visesa Vijnaniya.

QUESTION 019 / 150

Seasonal Kapha elimination

Which month is indicated by Caraka for Sancita Kapha Dosa Nirharana?

Choose an answer for question 19
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Caitra

Caitra is the intended spring month for eliminating accumulated Kapha. The underlying seasonal principle is that Kapha accumulated during the cold period becomes aggravated as seasonal warmth increases. The question asks for the traditional month associated with the procedure, rather than a universal calendar instruction for every patient.

Revision cue: Spring/Vasanta—Kapha; revise the corresponding seasonal Dosha cycle.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Kalpa Sthana 1, seasonal purification.

QUESTION 020 / 150

Dandena Dandakasya

According to Caraka, “Dandena dandakasya” exemplifies what?

Choose an answer for question 20
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Upamana

The comparison explains the stiffness of Dandaka by analogy with a rod, Danda. It is therefore Aupamya or Upamana. The point is similarity between a familiar object and the condition being explained, rather than an inference from a separate sign or a claim based on authority.

Revision cue: Danda : Dandaka = analogy.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Vimana Sthana 8.42.

Kayachikitsa & Panchakarma

Questions 21–39 · Read the author and context before deciding.

QUESTION 021 / 150

Yusha as Sneha Anupana

According to Caraka, Yusa is the Anupana for which Sneha?

Choose an answer for question 21
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Taila

The standard pairing is Taila with Yusha. Warm water is associated with the usual after-drink for Ghrita, while Manda is associated with Vasa and Majja in this comparison. Such questions test the particular Sneha–Anupana pair, so memorising “warm liquid after oleation” is not precise enough.

Revision cue: Taila—Yusha; Ghrita—Ushnodaka; Vasa/Majja—Manda.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 13, Sneha Anupana.

QUESTION 022 / 150

Indication for Divasvapna

In which Rtu is Divasvapna indicated by Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 22
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Grisma

Grisma is the seasonal exception in the usual discussion of daytime sleep. Short nights, heat and seasonal depletion provide the context. This is a question about the classical regimen; it does not mean that daytime sleep is recommended indiscriminately in all seasons or for all constitutions and diseases.

Revision cue: Divasvapna: remember the Grisma exception.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 21, discussion of sleep.

QUESTION 023 / 150

Avapidaka Ghrita

Vagbhata indicates Avapidaka Ghrta Pana for which Vega-rodhaja condition?

Choose an answer for question 23
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Mutravega Rodhaja Roga

Avapidaka Ghrita is discussed for the disorders arising from suppression of the urge to urinate. The term identifies a specific mode and timing of administration in the classical text. It should not be treated as a generic label for every use of Ghrita in Vata-related symptoms.

Revision cue: Vega cue: Mutra, not Mala or Udgara.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 4, Mutravega suppression.

QUESTION 024 / 150

Vagbhata’s Agrya for Plihavikara

Which is the drug of choice for Plihavikara according to Vagbhata?

Choose an answer for question 24
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Pippali

The Agrya statement pairs Plihamaya with Pippali. Rohitaka is an important medicine in other discussions of splenic disorders, which makes it a strong distractor, but the named authority and exact Agrya pairing decide this question. Read the attribution before choosing a familiar therapeutic association.

Revision cue: Vagbhata, Agrya: Plihamaye Pippali.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 40.48.

QUESTION 025 / 150

Ativirikta signs

According to Susruta, which are Ativirikta Laksana?
1. Murccha
2. Kandu
3. Sula
4. Paridaha

Choose an answer for question 25
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. 1 and 4

Murccha and Paridaha fit excessive purgation. Pruritus is more characteristic of retained morbidity or inadequate cleansing in the relevant comparison. The distinction being tested is excessive versus inadequate action; it is not enough to select any symptoms that might occur during an illness.

Revision cue: Atiyoga: depletion, faintness and burning are key warning features in the classical description.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 34, complications of purification.

QUESTION 026 / 150

Udara: disease–procedure matching

Match the diseases with the modalities.
A. Dusyodara; B. Yakrddali; C. Plihodara; D. Parisravi Udara.
1. Salyakarma; 2. Siravedha Vamabahu; 3. Virecana; 4. Siravedha Daksinabahu.

Choose an answer for question 26
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. A3 B4 C2 D1

Dusyodara matches Virechana. Yakrit enlargement matches venesection on the right arm, whereas splenic enlargement matches the left arm. Parisravi Udara matches surgical intervention. The right–left distinction is the central trap; solving those two pairings first eliminates the competing codes efficiently.

Revision cue: Liver—right; spleen—left; Parisravi—surgery.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 14, Udara management.

QUESTION 027 / 150

Constipation in Vatika Shotha

Which treatment is indicated by Caraka for Vibandha in a patient with Vatika Sotha?

Choose an answer for question 27
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Niruha Basti

The specific instruction for Vata-related edema with hard or obstructed stool is evacuative Niruha Basti. The surrounding passage gives other treatments for different locations and Dosha combinations. Those broader options should not be combined into “all of the above” when the question asks for this particular clinical-text pairing.

Revision cue: Choose the specific indication in the verse, rather than all potentially relevant procedures.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 12.17–19.

QUESTION 028 / 150

Raktam syavam sadaharti

“Raktam syavam sadaharti” describes which Kustha according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 28
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Sataru

The phrase belongs to Shataru Kushtha, associated with reddish or dusky lesions and burning pain. Vicharchika is more readily identified through its characteristic itchy, exudative description. In quotation-based questions, keeping the entire descriptive cluster together is more reliable than choosing from a single shared symptom.

Revision cue: Shataru: reddish/dusky lesions with burning and pain.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 7, Kshudra Kushtha descriptions.

QUESTION 029 / 150

Ghrita timing in Rajayakshma

For a Rajayaksma patient with headache or lateral chest pain, when and how much Ghrtapana is indicated?

Choose an answer for question 29
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Scarce amount after meals

The intended regimen is small, repeated quantities after food. The post-meal timing is important in the text’s approach to pain in the head, sides of the chest and shoulder region. A large pre-meal oleation dose would represent a different administration strategy and is not the pairing sought here.

Revision cue: Small and repeated; post-prandial. Read quantity and timing as two separate decisions.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 8.92–94.

QUESTION 030 / 150

Gadaticara as a cause

Gadaticarah is an etiological factor for which disease according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 30
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Mutrakrcchra

The term is included in the etiological account of Mutrakricchra. It points to an adverse course or complication of disease rather than a simple food ingredient. The correct approach is to identify the source chapter’s cause-list; similarity to the general word “disease” does not make it applicable to every option.

Revision cue: Gadaticara—Mutrakricchra cause-list.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 26, Mutrakricchra.

QUESTION 031 / 150

Vakratvad avatisthate

“Parvasvabhihatam ksubdham vakratvad avatisthate” refers to which condition?

Choose an answer for question 31
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Vatarakta

The passage describes the lodging of aggravated morbid factors in the joints in the pathogenesis of Vatarakta. The reference to the course and arrangement of channels is part of that explanation. Joint involvement alone is not enough to identify Sandhivata or Amavata, since several diseases affect the joints.

Revision cue: Use the quoted pathogenesis, not only the anatomical site.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 29, Vatarakta pathogenesis.

QUESTION 032 / 150

Basti ingredients in Udara

According to Caraka, which can be used in Basti for treating Udara Roga?

Choose an answer for question 32
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. All of the above

The Udara discussion includes different Basti formulations, with ingredients selected for the relevant presentation. The alternatives represent those different combinations rather than mutually exclusive answers to one identical prescription. “All of the above” is therefore the intended answer; it does not imply mixing every listed substance into a single preparation.

Revision cue: Different formulations can share an indication without being one combined formula.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 13, Basti measures.

QUESTION 033 / 150

Hrdayadrava in Vatika Chardi

What should be given for Hrdayadrava in a patient with Vatika Chardi according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 33
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Oral Ghrta mixed with Saindhava Lavana

The relevant instruction is Ghrita with rock salt. The source also describes a medicated Ghrita alternative in the same context. The presence of palpitation in the question narrows the answer to that specific instruction; other nourishing or digestive preparations should not replace it merely because they appear elsewhere in treatment.

Revision cue: Hrdayadrava + Vatika Chardi—Ghrita with Saindhava.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 20.24.

QUESTION 034 / 150

Maintaining the path of Vata

“Yatha tatha anilas tasya margam nityam visodhayet” refers to which disease in Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 34
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Svasa

The instruction belongs to Shvasa management and emphasises keeping the pathway of Vata unobstructed. The disease’s obstructive respiratory mechanism makes this a central principle. It should not be read as an unrestricted instruction to purge a patient repeatedly; the quotation has a defined therapeutic context in the classical text.

Revision cue: Shvasa: obstruction and the normal movement of Vata are central concepts.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 17, Shvasa treatment principle.

QUESTION 035 / 150

Pitta occluding which Vayu?

A patient has excessive sweating, polydipsia, burning, syncope and loss of appetite. What is the diagnosis according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 35
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Pittavrta Samana Vayu

This cluster matches Samana Vayu occluded by Pitta. Excessive sweating, thirst, burning, fainting and anorexia occur together in that description. Vyana’s general relationship with distribution throughout the body can be distracting, but the complete cluster and its textual attribution favour Samana.

Revision cue: Solve Avarana questions from the full symptom cluster.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 28.225.

QUESTION 036 / 150

Takra in Jalodara

According to Caraka, Takra is indicated with which ingredient in Jalodara?

Choose an answer for question 36
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Trikatu

The Jalodara pairing is churned buttermilk with Trikatu. The surrounding Udara instructions use other additives for other types, so transferring an ingredient from an adjacent disease creates an incorrect answer. Pippali with honey is associated with Parisravi Udara in this comparison.

Revision cue: Jalodara—Trikatu; Parisravi—Pippali and Madhu.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 13.104–105.

QUESTION 037 / 150

Silajatvadi Lauha indication

As per Bhaisajya Ratnavali, Silajatvadi Lauha is indicated for which condition?

Choose an answer for question 37
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

C. Ksaya Roga

Kshaya Roga is the indication sought for this named formulation. The word Lauha alone is not enough to select Pandu: different iron-containing formulations have different classical indications. In formulation questions, the complete name and the chapter in which it occurs are the useful recall units.

Revision cue: Silajatvadi Lauha—Kshaya/Rajayakshma context.

Reference: Bhaisajya Ratnavali, Rajayakshma/Kshaya Rogadhikara; compare the Silajatvadi Lauha entry. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Text-specific formulation answer; independently reconcile with the edition used for the final key.

QUESTION 038 / 150

Kulattha Guda

Bhaisajya Ratnavali describes Kulattha Guda as useful in which condition?

Choose an answer for question 38
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

D. Svasa/Tamaka Svasa

The intended indication is Shvasa, particularly Tamaka Shvasa. Kulattha Guda is a formulation name and should not be replaced by general statements about the actions of Kulattha as a food or drug. Distinguish the properties of the ingredient from the indication of the finished preparation.

Revision cue: Formulation name → text → Rogadhikara is a useful revision sequence.

Reference: Bhaisajya Ratnavali, Shvasa Rogadhikara, Kulattha Guda. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Formulation reference should be checked against the relevant printed edition.

QUESTION 039 / 150

Visarpa treatment in Shiroroga

Caraka allows Visarpa-treatment measures in which Siroroga?

Choose an answer for question 39
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Sankhaka

Shankhaka is the condition for which the Visarpa line of treatment is relevant. This is a cross-reference between disease discussions, not a statement that every headache is a form of Visarpa. Such references are often examined because they connect treatment principles across chapters.

Revision cue: Cross-reference: Shankhaka ↔ Visarpa Chikitsa.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 26, Shiroroga.

QUESTION 040 / 150

CA 19-9 tumour marker

CA 19-9 can be used to monitor the treatment response of which disease?

Choose an answer for question 40
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Adenocarcinoma of pancreas

CA 19-9 is used in monitoring pancreatic cancer, including response to treatment in appropriate patients. It is not a sufficiently specific stand-alone screening or diagnostic test: benign biliary disease and other conditions can also raise it. The question concerns monitoring, which is distinct from population screening.

Revision cue: Marker pairs: pancreas—CA 19-9; ovarian epithelial cancer—CA-125; colorectal cancer—CEA.

Reference: National Cancer Institute: tumour markers in common use.

QUESTION 041 / 150

Continuous cardiac murmur

A continuous murmur is found in which heart disease?

Choose an answer for question 41
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Persistent ductus arteriosus

A patent ductus arteriosus can produce the characteristic continuous “machinery” murmur because a pressure difference drives flow across the duct in systole and diastole. Aortic regurgitation classically produces a diastolic murmur; mitral regurgitation produces a systolic murmur. A patent foramen ovale is not the classic continuous-murmur answer.

Revision cue: Continuous murmur—PDA; classify a murmur by timing before comparing diagnoses.

Reference: Clinical cardiology: auscultatory features of patent ductus arteriosus. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 042 / 150

Pinpoint pupils

Pinpoint pupils occur in which conditions?
1. Pontine hemorrhage
2. Subarachnoid hemorrhage
3. Opium poisoning
4. Datura poisoning

Choose an answer for question 42
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. 1 and 3

Pontine lesions and opioid poisoning are the classic associations with very small pupils. Datura produces an antimuscarinic toxidrome, typically with dilated pupils. Subarachnoid hemorrhage does not provide the characteristic pinpoint-pupil association required to make the other pair correct.

Revision cue: Opioid—miosis; Datura—mydriasis. Localisation and toxidromes can share a sign.

Reference: Clinical neurology and toxicology: pontine lesions, opioid and antimuscarinic toxidromes. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 043 / 150

Granulomatous splenic lesion

A 58-year-old man has fever, cough, weakness, anorexia and weight loss exceeding 4 kg/month. He is febrile, with pulse 96/min and BP 100/70 mm Hg. Hb is 9 g/dL; the paper prints TLC as 7.8/cumm; GGT is 150 IU and AST/ALT 70/40 IU. CT shows bilateral pleural thickening, abdominal lymphadenopathy and moderate splenomegaly; splenic biopsy shows granulomatous changes. What is the provisional diagnosis?

Choose an answer for question 43
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Splenic tuberculosis

Among the options, systemic constitutional symptoms together with granulomatous splenic pathology favour tuberculosis. A granuloma is not, by itself, proof of TB: microbiology and exclusion of other granulomatous diseases are needed in practice. “Provisional” is an important qualifier in the question; the answer is the best fit to the vignette.

Revision cue: Do not equate a suggestive histological pattern with definitive organism identification.

Reference: Clinical pathology: splenic tuberculosis and differential diagnosis of granulomatous lesions. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 044 / 150

Hastasveda in infancy

According to Kasyapa Samhita, Hastasveda is given for how many months from birth?

Choose an answer for question 44
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

C. Four

The traditional age-wise instruction assigns Hasta Sveda to the first four months. The examination distinguishes this gentle method from methods described for older infants. This is a historical textbook classification for exam revision, not a recommendation to apply heat to a newborn without clinical supervision.

Revision cue: Kasyapa: birth to four months—Hasta Sveda.

Reference: Kasyapa Samhita, Sutra Sthana, Svedadhyaya. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Age-specific classical reference: confirm with the edition prescribed for the examination.

QUESTION 045 / 150

Ingredients of Suvarnaprasana

As per Kasyapa Samhita, which are ingredients of Suvarnaprasana?
1. Madhu
2. Ghrta
3. Suvarna
4. Ksira

Choose an answer for question 45
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. 1, 2 and 3

The classical ingredient combination named in the question is Suvarna with Madhu and Ghrita. Kshira is not part of that specific three-ingredient answer. The MCQ tests a textual formulation; it does not establish clinical efficacy or alter modern infant-feeding guidance, including the restriction on honey in infants under one year.

Revision cue: Remember the exact listed combination, while keeping historical descriptions separate from current infant care.

Reference: Kasyapa Samhita, Lehadhyaya, Suvarnaprasana description. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 046 / 150

Phakka Roga oil

Which Taila is indicated in Phakka Roga according to Kasyapa Samhita?

Choose an answer for question 46
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

C. Raja Taila

Raja Taila is the formulation paired with Phakka in the cited tradition. Samvardhana Taila sounds plausible because the disease is studied in the context of child development, but a general developmental association should not displace a specific formula reference. The formulation name is the distinguishing fact being examined.

Revision cue: Phakka—Raja Taila.

Reference: Kasyapa Samhita, Phakka Chikitsa. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Text-specific oil reference requires edition reconciliation.

QUESTION 047 / 150

Pentavalent vaccine components

Which vaccine is not included in the pentavalent vaccine referred to in the paper?

Choose an answer for question 47
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. IPV

In India’s immunisation context, the pentavalent combination is DPT plus hepatitis B plus Hib. These protect against five diseases, counting diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus separately. IPV is given separately in this programme; do not generalise the answer to every product marketed internationally as a five-component vaccine.

Revision cue: India UIP pentavalent = DPT + HepB + Hib.

Reference: WHO/UNICEF and Government of India: pentavalent vaccine guide.

QUESTION 048 / 150

Hepatomegaly with facial puffiness

Which is the common cause of hepatomegaly with facial puffiness among the options?

Choose an answer for question 48
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

A. Glycogen storage disease

Glycogen storage disease is the intended exam association, particularly the rounded or doll-like facies seen in classic pediatric descriptions. The stem provides little clinical context, so this is not a uniquely diagnostic combination in practice. Right-sided heart failure can also produce congestive hepatomegaly and systemic edema.

Revision cue: Interpret facial puffiness here as the traditional doll-like facies clue.

Reference: Pediatric metabolic disease: glycogen storage disorders. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Underspecified stem: A is the likely intended association; facial edema plus hepatomegaly is not unique to GSD.

QUESTION 049 / 150

Hemolytic jaundice urine finding

Which finding is positive in haemolytic jaundice?

Choose an answer for question 49
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Urobilinogen is in excess in urine

Increased breakdown of red cells increases bilirubin delivery to the intestine and can raise urinary urobilinogen. The bilirubin predominating in uncomplicated hemolysis is unconjugated and is not water-soluble, so it is not characteristically excreted as urinary bilirubin. This separates hemolytic from obstructive patterns.

Revision cue: Hemolysis: increased urobilinogen; uncomplicated unconjugated jaundice: no bilirubinuria.

Reference: Clinical biochemistry: bilirubin metabolism and urinary urobilinogen. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 050 / 150

Cullen and Grey Turner signs

Bruising around the umbilicus and flanks may develop in which condition?

Choose an answer for question 50
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Haemorrhagic pancreatitis

Periumbilical discoloration is Cullen’s sign and flank discoloration is Grey Turner’s sign. They can occur when hemorrhagic fluid tracks into subcutaneous tissue, classically in severe hemorrhagic pancreatitis. They are not exclusive to pancreatitis, but it is the best answer among the options supplied.

Revision cue: Umbilicus—Cullen; flank—Grey Turner. Both suggest significant underlying hemorrhage.

Reference: Clinical surgery: hemorrhagic pancreatitis and ecchymotic signs. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 051 / 150

After neonatal resuscitation

“Pratyagatapranam prakrtibhutam abhisamiksya” in Caraka Samhita is related to which procedure?

Choose an answer for question 51
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Nabhinada Kartana

The wording describes assessing that the newborn has regained vital function and returned to an appropriate condition before proceeding to the cord procedure. The next instruction concerns ligature and cutting of the umbilical cord. Read it as a sequence of neonatal measures, rather than identifying it only from the word Prana.

Revision cue: Sequence question: recovery and assessment precede the cord instruction.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 8, neonatal care and cord cutting.

QUESTION 052 / 150

Etiology of Ambupurna

Which is the etiology of Ambupurna?

Choose an answer for question 52
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Garbhambhasam avamanad slesmanah

Ambupurna is described in relation to retained or unexpelled Garbhambhas and Shleshma. The identifying words in the first option point to that neonatal mechanism. The second option describes a different set of Kapha-promoting factors, while the last two concern explanations associated with Graha contexts.

Revision cue: Ambu points to the retained fetal-fluid context.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana, Balaroga description.

QUESTION 053 / 150

Processing substitute milk

In the absence of Stanya, which is advised for processing top-feed milk?

Choose an answer for question 53
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Hrsva Pancamula

The classical answer is Hrasva or Laghu Panchamula. This tests the named group used in the traditional alternative-milk description. It must not be interpreted as modern formula-preparation advice: contemporary infant feeding requires an age-appropriate feeding plan and safe preparation rather than improvised herbal additions.

Revision cue: Hrasva Panchamula = Laghu Panchamula; distinguish it from Brihat Panchamula.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 1, infant-feeding discussion.

QUESTION 054 / 150

Savagandhata in Balagraha

According to Vagbhata, Savagandhata is present in which Balagraha?

Choose an answer for question 54
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Pitr Graha

The symptom cluster of Pitr Graha includes Shavagandhata. Do not confuse Shava, meaning a corpse, with Shva, meaning a dog: the similarity of the transliterated words makes Shva Graha a deliberate distractor. Reading the complete Sanskrit term avoids that error.

Revision cue: Shava-gandha and Shva-graha are different terms.

Lekhana Anjana Varti dose

According to Susruta, what is the dose of Lekhana Anjana Varti?

Choose an answer for question 55
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. 1 Harenu

One Harenu is the intended quantity in the Lekhana Varti comparison. The text distinguishes the quantities for different types of Anjana and also distinguishes Varti from other dosage forms. Do not transfer a measure stated for a soothing or healing application to the scraping variety.

Revision cue: Always pair the measure with both the preparation form and its intended action.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Uttara Tantra 18, Anjana measures.

QUESTION 056 / 150

Site of Vidarbha Roga

According to Vagbhata, Vidarbha Roga affects which structure?

Choose an answer for question 56
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Dantamamsa

Vidarbha is described among diseases of the gums, with inflammation and looseness of teeth following injury or excessive friction. Therefore Dantamamsa is the appropriate site. It should not be confused with diseases of the ear-lobe simply because several uncommon disease names occur in the same Shalakya syllabus.

Revision cue: Vidarbha—gingival disease; injury/friction is the distinguishing context.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 21.28–29.

QUESTION 057 / 150

Sukhasvapnavabodhatvam

“Sukhasvapnavabodhatvam, vaisadyam, varnapatavam” are symptoms of which satisfactory procedure according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 57
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Samyak Tarpana

The intended answer is satisfactory ocular Tarpana. Comfortable sleep and waking, clarity and improvement in the organ’s condition indicate an appropriate response in the relevant description. The presence of a word meaning sleep does not make the quotation simply a definition of Samyak Nidra.

Revision cue: Procedure questions: identify the full benefit cluster, not its first word.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Uttara Tantra 18, satisfactory ocular Tarpana.

QUESTION 058 / 150

Ksirasarpi Nasya and Pana

Susruta indicates Nasya and Pana of Ksirasarpi as a Cikitsa Upakrama in which condition?

Choose an answer for question 58
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Anidra

The referenced use is in Anidra. The passage on sleep describes nourishing and Vata/Pitta-pacifying measures, including milk-derived unctuous preparations. The two routes named in the question should be retained together when remembering the textual association; a generic use of Ghrita in another disorder is not sufficient.

Revision cue: Anidra: connect the textual regimen with the sleep discussion in Sharira Sthana.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4, sleep and sleeplessness.

QUESTION 059 / 150

Bandhukanibham in eye disease

“Bandhukanibham, tamyati, sparsanaksamam” describes which disease in Astanga Hrdaya?

Choose an answer for question 59
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Raktaja Adhimantha

The striking red colour compared with the Bandhuka flower and intolerance of touch occur in the description of Raktaja Adhimantha. These are features of the specific eye-disease classification, rather than a generic headache syndrome. The colour comparison is a useful differentiator between Dosha/Rakta variants.

Revision cue: Bandhuka-red + painful eye—Raktaja Adhimantha.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 15.13–14.

QUESTION 060 / 150

Gomamsa-curna wound dressing reference

“Vranam gomamsacurnena baddham baddham vimucya ca” is described in the treatment of which disease?

Choose an answer for question 60
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Ajaka

The verse occurs in the classical treatment description of Ajaka, after the preceding local procedure. The question asks for attribution of a historical passage, not a current ocular-treatment recommendation. The surrounding disease name is decisive; the unusual dressing material alone should not be used to infer a modern diagnosis.

Revision cue: Ajaka: learn the quotation in its chapter sequence.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 11.55–57.

QUESTION 061 / 150

Asteroid hyalosis association

Asteroid hyalosis is commonly seen in elderly people suffering from which condition, as intended by this MCQ?

Choose an answer for question 61
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

B. Diabetes

Diabetes is the traditional examination association. However, population studies have not consistently confirmed an independent association, and older age is the much firmer epidemiological feature. Thus B is the conventional answer among these choices, but “asteroid hyalosis proves diabetes” would be an incorrect clinical conclusion.

Revision cue: An exam association is not a diagnostic test or a proven causal relationship.

Reference: American Academy of Ophthalmology EyeWiki: Asteroid Hyalosis.

Evidence qualification: the diabetes association is inconsistent across studies.

QUESTION 062 / 150

Cherry-red spot

A round cherry-red spot in the fundus is typically seen in which disease?

Choose an answer for question 62
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Central retinal artery occlusion

CRAO classically produces retinal whitening around a relatively red fovea. The contrast, rather than a red deposit, creates the cherry-red appearance. It is a typical association in the options given, although cherry-red macular appearances can occur in other conditions outside this list.

Revision cue: CRAO: sudden painless visual loss, retinal whitening and a cherry-red spot.

Reference: American Academy of Ophthalmology: retinal artery occlusion.

QUESTION 063 / 150

Recruitment phenomenon

Recruitment phenomenon is typically seen in which disease?

Choose an answer for question 63
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Meniere’s disease

Recruitment is an abnormally rapid growth of perceived loudness as sound intensity increases. It points to cochlear dysfunction and is classically associated with Meniere’s disease. Acoustic neuroma is a retrocochlear disorder, so it is the important contrasting option in this question.

Revision cue: Cochlear lesion—recruitment; distinguish cochlear from retrocochlear hearing loss.

Reference: Clinical audiology: loudness recruitment and cochlear disease. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 064 / 150

Progressive inherited retinal disease

Which disease may begin in childhood, progress slowly and cause severe visual loss by middle age?

Choose an answer for question 64
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Retinitis pigmentosa

Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of inherited retinal degenerations, often beginning with night-vision problems and progressive peripheral-field loss. The paper’s statement about total blindness by middle age is an oversimplification: progression and remaining vision vary considerably between individuals and genetic subtypes.

Revision cue: Early night blindness and peripheral-field loss are the useful RP clues.

Cakra Taila and Vidarigana Taila

According to Susruta, Cakra Taila and Vidarigana Siddha Taila are indicated in which Visa context?

Choose an answer for question 65
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Madhya and Manda Vrscika Visa

The reference belongs to the moderate and mild scorpion-poisoning categories. The question tests the text’s graded classification and the location of the named measures within it. Snakebite and severe envenomation should not be added merely because both are studied under Agada Tantra.

Revision cue: Match the measure to both the animal and the severity category.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Kalpa Sthana 8, Vrischika classifications and measures.

QUESTION 066 / 150

Poison–sign matching

Match the poisons with the clinical features.
A. Sulphuric acid; B. Mercury; C. Aconite; D. Opium.
1. Hippus reaction; 2. Pinpoint pupil; 3. Chalky white teeth; 4. Acrodynia.

Choose an answer for question 66
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. A3 B4 C1 D2

The conventional forensic matching is sulphuric acid with chalky-white dental changes, mercury with acrodynia, aconite with hippus, and opium with pinpoint pupils. Mercury–acrodynia and opioid–miosis are the strongest initial anchors. These are examination associations and are not individually sufficient to confirm an exposure in a patient.

Revision cue: Anchor B4 and D2 first, then compare the remaining codes.

Reference: Forensic toxicology: corrosive acids, mercury, aconite and opioids. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 067 / 150

Postmortem caloricity exception

Postmortem caloricity is not characteristically observed in which condition?

Choose an answer for question 67
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Chronic and wasting disease

Sunstroke and intense convulsive or muscle activity, as in tetanus and strychnine poisoning, are classic settings associated with postmortem caloricity. A chronic wasting disease is the exception in this list. The distinction depends on the circumstances of heat production and retention around death.

Revision cue: Convulsions and hyperthermia are useful association groups.

Reference: Forensic medicine: postmortem temperature changes. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 068 / 150

Formulation–ingredient matching

Match the formulations with their ingredients.
A. Rajahpravartini Vati; B. Svarnavanga; C. Vranaraksasa Taila; D. Sarasvatarista.
1. Haratala; 2. Kasisa; 3. Navasara; 4. Svarna.

Choose an answer for question 68
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. A2 B3 C1 D4

The matching is Rajahpravartini Vati—Kasisa, Svarnavanga—Navasara, Vranarakshasa Taila—Haratala, and Sarasvatarishta—Svarna. The word Svarna in Svarnavanga is a trap: it should not be used as a substitute for checking the formulation’s ingredient list. Formula names do not always name every material present.

Revision cue: Identify the actual ingredient, not a literal interpretation of the product name.

Reference: Ayurvedic formulary entries for the four named preparations. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 069 / 150

Pusyanuga Curna statements

According to Cakradatta, which statements about Pusyanuga Curna are correct?
1. Indicated in Raktatisara.
2. Anupana is Tandulodaka and Madhu.
3. Contains Gairika and Kesara.
4. Contains Kesara but not Gairika.

Choose an answer for question 69
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. 1, 2 and 3

The intended combination is statements 1, 2 and 3. Gairika is included, so the exclusion in statement 4 is wrong. Rice-water and honey are the characteristic administration adjuncts. Remember that Kesara in an ingredient list must be identified according to the particular formulary, not automatically equated with modern culinary saffron.

Revision cue: Do not select two statements that contradict each other about Gairika.

Reference: Cakradatta, Striroga/Pradara discussion, Pushyanuga Churna. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 070 / 150

Phalatrikadi for Prameha

In Sarngadhara Samhita, what is added to Phalatrikadi Kvatha for Prameha?

Choose an answer for question 70
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Nisa Kalka

The Prameha preparation is specified with Nisha Kalka. Another Phalatrikadi preparation, discussed for Pandu and Kamala, uses honey; confusing the two similarly named formulations leads to option A. The disease qualifier is therefore essential: identify the Prameha verse before selecting the accompanying substance.

Revision cue: Same formulation name can denote different ingredient/indication contexts.

Reference: Sharngadhara Samhita, Madhyama Khanda 2.111; compare the Pandu/Kamala verse 2.77.

QUESTION 071 / 150

Medicine timing for Urdhvajatrugata disease

According to Sarngadhara Samhita, what Ausadha Sevana Kala is prescribed for Urdhvajatrugata Vikara?

Choose an answer for question 71
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Night

Night is the intended administration period. This question belongs to the text-specific classification of medicine timings and should not be answered by applying a modern once-daily dosing habit. Different timing schemes can be organised differently across authors, so the attribution to Sharngadhara matters.

Revision cue: Authority first: Sharngadhara’s timing classification.

Reference: Sharngadhara Samhita, Purva Khanda, Aushadha Sevana Kala. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 072 / 150

Seasonal collection of roots

According to Caraka, which plant part should be collected during Sisira and Grisma?

Choose an answer for question 72
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Mula

The stated collection seasons apply to Mula, or roots. Harvesting guidance distinguishes plant parts rather than assigning one universal season to the entire plant. Latex collection in Q17 is a separate instruction concerning Sudha and should not be transferred into this general plant-part question.

Revision cue: General Mula collection and a particular latex collection are different questions.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Kalpa Sthana 1, collection of medicinal plant parts.

QUESTION 073 / 150

Substitute for Puskaramula

According to Bhaisajya Ratnavali, which Dravya is taken in the absence of Puskaramula?

Choose an answer for question 73
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Kustha

Kushtha is the classical substitute sought here. This is an Abhava-Pratinidhi question: it tests a recorded substitution, not whether two drugs share one action or have similar names. A substitution described in a historical text does not make the materials universally interchangeable in every preparation.

Revision cue: Abhava-Pratinidhi pairs should be learned as specific pairs.

Reference: Bhaisajya Ratnavali, Abhava-Pratinidhi Dravya enumeration. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 074 / 150

Urahsandhanakrt Avaleha

According to Sarngadhara Samhita, which Avaleha is described as Urahsandhanakrt?

Choose an answer for question 74
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Kusmandavaleha

Kushmandavaleha is the preparation associated with the quoted action. The description points to its traditional use in the context of pectoral injury and depletion. Kutajavaleha belongs to a different major therapeutic context, so choosing solely from a familiar Avaleha name will not resolve the question.

Revision cue: Urahsandhana—Kushmandavaleha.

Reference: Sharngadhara Samhita, Madhyama Khanda 8, Kushmanda Avaleha.

Kvatha for Bhagandara

Which Kvatha is beneficial in Bhagandara according to Sarngadhara Samhita?

Choose an answer for question 75
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Khadiradi Kvatha

Khadiradi Kvatha is the formulation described for Bhagandara. The primary verse combines Khadira and Triphala decoction with the specified adjuncts. Dhatri Khadira is a plausible distractor, but it is not the name in this Bhagandara verse. The complete primary text is decisive here.

Revision cue: Sharngadhara Madhyama 2.133: Bhagandara—Khadiradi Kvatha.

Reference: Sharngadhara Samhita, Madhyama Khanda 2.133.

QUESTION 076 / 150

Curna in bloody vomiting

According to Bhaisajya Ratnavali, which Curna is beneficial in Sarakta Vamana?

Choose an answer for question 76
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

D. Khadiradipuspa Curna

Khadiradipushpa Churna is the proposed text-specific answer. Bloody vomiting is the qualifier, which separates it from a general Chardi formulation question. The exact named entry should be reconciled with the edition of Bhaishajya Ratnavali used for the answer key; a general astringent action alone does not settle the attribution.

Revision cue: Provisional recall pair: Sarakta Vamana—Khadiradipushpa Churna.

Reference: Bhaisajya Ratnavali, Chardi Rogadhikara; Khadiradipushpa Churna reference. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Provisional: exact formulation entry has not been independently confirmed in a complete primary edition.

QUESTION 077 / 150

When to use Rakta Candana

Rakta Candana should be used in the preparation of which of the following?

Choose an answer for question 77
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Kasaya and Lepa

The intended preparation rule selects Rakta Chandana for Kashaya and Lepa. Such instructions distinguish which of the substances called Chandana is to be used when a recipe is not otherwise explicit. This is a formulary convention, not a claim that red sandalwood can never occur in another dosage form.

Revision cue: Preparation-specific substitution rules must be read with their exceptions.

Reference: Bhaishajya Kalpana: Chandana selection in Kashaya and Lepa preparations. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 078 / 150

Kankayana Gutika statements

According to Cakradatta, which statements about Kankayana Gutika are correct?
1. Useful in Gulma.
2. Useful in Arsa.
3. Useful in Atisara and Raktapitta.
4. Useful in Krmi Roga.

Choose an answer for question 78
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

B. 1, 2 and 4

The intended indications are Gulma, Arsha and Krimi Roga. Statement 3 is the exclusion in this set. Because more than one Kankayana preparation appears in traditional formularies, revision should retain the authority and indication context instead of treating the name as one universally identical formula.

Revision cue: For repeated formulation names, preserve the text and Rogadhikara.

Reference: Cakradatta, Kankayana Gutika references in Gulma and Arsha contexts. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Formulation variants exist; reconcile the exact preparation with the printed source.

QUESTION 079 / 150

Gas law during inspiration

Which physical gas law explains increasing lung volume and decreasing pressure during inspiration?

Choose an answer for question 79
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Boyle’s law

At approximately constant temperature, gas pressure varies inversely with volume. Expansion of the thoracic cavity increases lung volume and lowers alveolar pressure below atmospheric pressure, allowing air to enter. This is Boyle’s law; Dalton concerns partial pressures and Henry concerns gas dissolved in liquid.

Revision cue: Boyle: P × V is constant for a fixed amount of gas at constant temperature.

Sandhivedana in depletion

According to Vagbhata, Sandhivedana is a symptom of which condition?

Choose an answer for question 80
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Mamsa Ksaya

Vagbhata includes joint pain in the Mamsa-kshaya symptom list, alongside wasting in specified regions. Asthi-kshaya has its own list, including bone pain and changes affecting teeth, hair and nails. The everyday association of joint pain with bones is not sufficient for this quotation-based question.

Revision cue: Textual list: Mamsa-kshaya includes Sandhivedana.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 11.18.

QUESTION 081 / 150

Formation of Antra

According to Susruta, which is responsible for the formation of Antra?

Choose an answer for question 81
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Sara Bhaga of Asrja and Slesma

Susruta describes the relevant intestinal formation from the refined portions of Asrik and Shleshma. These are classical embryological explanations and should not be presented as modern germ-layer anatomy. Option C instead recalls the blood-and-fat association used for another organ in the same developmental discussion.

Revision cue: Keep classical organ-origin lists separate from modern embryology.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4, visceral development.

QUESTION 082 / 150

Sandhi in Sirah-Katikapala

Which type of joint is present in Sirah-Katikapala according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 82
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Tunnasevani

Tunnasevani denotes the suture-like type of junction in this classification. The stitched-seam analogy distinguishes it from the other joint forms. The question belongs to Susruta’s morphological classification of Sandhi, so modern synovial-joint terminology should not be substituted for the named classical type.

Revision cue: Tunnasevani: think of a stitched or sutured seam.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 5, types of Sandhi.

QUESTION 083 / 150

Vitapa Marma measurement

According to Susruta, what is the measurement of Vitapa Marma?

Choose an answer for question 83
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. One Angula

Vitapa is placed in the one-Angula group in the Marma measurement comparison. These measurements belong to a traditional proportional framework. Do not confuse the stated Marma extent with a modern fixed centimetre measurement or with the separate precautions about making incisions near vital sites.

Revision cue: Vitapa—one Angula; remember location, tissue class, size and injury effect separately.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 6, Marma measurements.

QUESTION 084 / 150

Yakrt-samantat kosthe ca

“Yakrtsamantat kosthe ca” is cited for which Kala according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 84
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Purisadhara

The phrase belongs to the description of Purishadhara Kala. Its distribution and association with the intestinal region distinguish it from the other Kalas. Seeing the word Yakrit in the quotation can wrongly suggest Raktadhara; the whole anatomical statement must be read together.

Revision cue: One organ-name in a verse is not enough to identify the Kala.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4, Kala description.

QUESTION 085 / 150

Basti Marma tissue class

Susruta includes Basti Marma in which category?

Choose an answer for question 85
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Snayu Marma

Basti is enumerated among the Snayu Marmas. This is distinct from its prognostic classification as a vital site where severe injury can be rapidly fatal. Marma questions often mix the anatomical tissue grouping with the outcome-based grouping, so both lists should be revised independently.

Revision cue: Basti: Snayu Marma; classification by consequence is a separate axis.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 6, Snayu Marma list.

QUESTION 086 / 150

Tongue epithelium: arch exception

Embryologically, the tongue epithelium develops from all the following arches except which?

Choose an answer for question 86
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Second arch

The second-arch contribution is overgrown during development. The anterior tongue is associated principally with the first arch, while the posterior territory relates to the third and the epiglottic region to the fourth. Distinguish epithelial origin from tongue-muscle origin and from the nerves supplying taste versus general sensation.

Revision cue: Second arch is the exception; tongue muscles have a different embryological story.

Reference: Human embryology: pharyngeal arches and tongue development. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 087 / 150

Meckel’s diverticulum

Meckel’s diverticulum is a remnant of which fetal duct?

Choose an answer for question 87
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Vitellointestinal

Meckel’s diverticulum results from persistence of part of the vitellointestinal, or omphalomesenteric, duct. It is therefore related to the connection between the developing intestine and yolk sac. Mullerian and Wolffian ducts belong to urogenital development and do not explain this ileal diverticulum.

Revision cue: Meckel—vitellointestinal/omphalomesenteric duct.

Reference: Human embryology and surgery: vitelline duct remnants. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 088 / 150

Sandraprasadameha

“Yasya samhanyate mutram kincit kincit prasidati” defines which Prameha in Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 88
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Sandraprasadameha

The description refers to urine with portions becoming dense or settling while other portions clear, giving the name Sandraprasadameha. Match the observed urine characteristic to the complete Prameha name. Majjameha refers to a different constituent-based appearance; Udakameha is characterised by a water-like description.

Revision cue: Sandra + Prasada: the wording itself describes dense and clearer portions.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Nidana Sthana 4, Kaphaja Prameha descriptions.

QUESTION 089 / 150

Synonyms of Vyadhi

Which are synonyms of Vyadhi according to Caraka?
1. Amaya
2. Gada
3. Jvara

Choose an answer for question 89
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. 1, 2 and 3

All three terms can occur among the broader classical names for disease. Jvara is also the name of a particular disease entity, which can make its inclusion surprising. Sanskrit technical usage is contextual: a word may function both as a general designation and as the name of a specific clinical category.

Revision cue: Do not assume that a specific disease-name cannot also have a broader usage.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 20, disease terminology.

QUESTION 090 / 150

Quietness and limited movement

“Sthanam ekadese, tusnimbhavah, alpasas cankramanam” describes which disease in Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 90
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. Kaphaja Unmada

Remaining in one place, relative silence and limited movement fit the Kaphaja Unmada description. Vataja Unmada is more characteristically associated with unstable and variable activity. The movement pattern is useful, but it should be interpreted with the full textual symptom group rather than used as a stand-alone psychiatric diagnosis.

Revision cue: Kapha pattern—reduced activity; Vata pattern—variability and restlessness.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Nidana Sthana 7, Kaphaja Unmada.

QUESTION 091 / 150

Maksika-ghuna-kesa

“Maksikaghunakesanam patanani ca” is a Purvarupa of which Roga according to Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 91
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Rajayaksma

The reference belongs to the prodromal description of Rajayakshma, including disturbed perception and reactions around food. It should not be read as a modern diagnostic criterion by itself. Quotation-based questions require matching the source’s whole prodromal account rather than interpreting one unfamiliar phrase literally.

Revision cue: Rajayakshma prodromes include characteristic food-related observations.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 8, Rajayakshma Purvarupa.

QUESTION 092 / 150

Majjasthita Jvara

As per Madhava Nidana, which sets describe Majjasthita Jvara?
1. Mahasvasa, Tamahpravesa, Chedana in Marmapradesa.
2. Murccha, Pralapa, Viksepa.
3. Saitya, Vamana, Hikka.

Choose an answer for question 92
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. 1 and 3

The Majjagata fever verse includes darkness before the eyes, hiccup, cough, coldness, vomiting, internal burning, severe dyspnea and cutting pain at vital sites. Statements 1 and 3 match that enumeration. The second cluster should not be imported merely because such symptoms can occur in severe fever generally.

Revision cue: Revise Dhatu-gata Jvara as distinct symptom clusters.

Reference: Madhava Nidana, Jvara Nidana, Majjagata Jvara verse.

QUESTION 093 / 150

Benefits of Vyayama

1. Vrsya
2. Duhkha Sahisnuta
3. Ayusya
4. Balavardhana

Choose an answer for question 93
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. 2 and 4

Tolerance of exertion or hardship and improvement in strength belong to the stated exercise benefits. The question asks which of the supplied terms occur in that particular list. Selecting every generally positive health effect would ignore the textual precision being examined.

Revision cue: Vyayama: strength, tolerance, lightness and related fitness features.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 7, exercise benefits.

Anupana for Godhuma

According to Astanga Hrdaya, what is the Anupana for Godhuma?

Choose an answer for question 94
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Sitajala

Cold water is the stated Anupana for barley and wheat in this passage. Mastu and Takra belong to other food-pairing contexts. The answer should be taken from the food-specific list; the broad idea that warm water assists digestion does not override the named pairing.

Revision cue: Yava/Godhuma—Hima or Sita Jala.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 8.47–48.

QUESTION 095 / 150

Baddhalpavarcasah snigdha

“Baddhalpavarcasah snigdha brmhanah sukramutrah” is related to which Varga?

Choose an answer for question 95
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Suka Dhanya Varga

The description belongs to the awned cereals, Shuka Dhanya. Shami Dhanya is the pulse group and has a different overall description. The question is about the group-level classification used in the text; individual foods within a group can still differ in their detailed properties.

Revision cue: Shuka Dhanya—cereals; Shami Dhanya—pulses.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 6, Shuka Dhanya description.

QUESTION 096 / 150

Yoga categories matching

Match the states with their types according to Patanjala Yoga Darsana.
A. Klesa; B. Viksepasahabhuva; C. Cittavrtti; D. Cittaviksepa.
1. Nidra; 2. Abhinivesa; 3. Angamejayatva; 4. Alabdhabhumikatva.

Choose an answer for question 96
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. A2 B3 C1 D4

Abhinivesha is a Klesha; Angamejayatva is an accompaniment of distraction; Nidra is a Chittavritti; and Alabdhabhumikatva is a distraction or obstacle. The key skill is recognising the hierarchy: an obstacle, its accompanying manifestation, a mental modification and an affliction are different categories.

Revision cue: Match category first, then the Sanskrit example.

Obstacle in Hatha Yoga

According to Hathapradipika, which is destructive to Yogasadhana?

Choose an answer for question 97
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Prayasa

Prayasa, excessive exertion, is in the list of factors that undermine practice. Utsaha, Sahasa and Nishchaya occur among qualities supporting success in the contrasting verse. The trap is confusing the two neighbouring lists; the similar-sounding terms should be revised in their complete sets.

Revision cue: Destructive list and success list are adjacent but opposite in function.

Reference: Hatha Pradipika 1.15–16. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 098 / 150

Type of Hrd Dhauti

According to Gheranda Samhita, which is a type of Hrd Dhauti?

Choose an answer for question 98
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Danda Dhauti

Danda Dhauti belongs to the Hrid Dhauti group. The alternatives belong to other divisions of the broader cleansing classification. The question tests taxonomy, not an instruction to perform the practice; some historical cleansing practices can cause harm when attempted without appropriate expertise.

Revision cue: Memorise the hierarchy of Dhauti rather than one undifferentiated list.

Reference: Gheranda Samhita, first Upadesha, Hrid Dhauti classification. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Palika Yantra purpose

According to Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, Palika Yantra is used for what?

Choose an answer for question 99
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Gandhaka Jarana

Palika Yantra is described for Bali, meaning Gandhaka, Jarana. Jarana and Shodhana are different operations, so choosing the correct material but the wrong process is still incorrect. The instrument name should be remembered together with both the processed substance and the action.

Revision cue: Palika—Bali/Gandhaka Jarana.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 9.50.

QUESTION 100 / 150

Nara, Nari and Napumsaka

In Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, Nara, Nari and Napumsaka are types of which substance?

Choose an answer for question 100
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Hiraka

These are the traditional types of Hiraka or Vajra, diamond, in the gem classification. Abhraka has other familiar classifications, including those based on behaviour on heating, which can distract a candidate who recalls only that both substances have several varieties.

Revision cue: Hiraka/Vajra—Nara, Nari, Napumsaka.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, chapter 4, Vajra classification.

QUESTION 101 / 150

Naga Bhasma properties

According to Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, which statements describe Naga Bhasma?
1. Ati Usna, Snigdha, Tikta.
2. Vata-Kapha-nasaka, Pramehaghna.
3. Madhura, Tikta, Ruksa.
4. Vata-Pittahara, Pramehaghna.

Choose an answer for question 101
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. 1 and 2

The traditional description matches statements 1 and 2. Ruksha and the Vata–Pitta pairing in the alternatives do not match that enumeration. Naga is lead: this is a historical Rasashastra recall question and must not be read as a claim that lead-containing preparations are safe for self-medication.

Revision cue: Separate the text’s property list from modern toxicological safety assessment.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, chapter 5, Naga/Sisaka properties.

QUESTION 102 / 150

Rajata-garbha Silajita

Which properties belong to Rajata-garbha Silajita in Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 102
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Madhura, Guru, Panduhara

The silver-bearing origin is associated in this classification with a sweet and heavy substance and a particular indication in Pandu. Kshayahara belongs to a contrasting description in the adjoining discussion. The question is testing the metal-of-origin subtypes, so a general list of Shilajatu actions is not enough.

Revision cue: Rajata-garbha: Madhura + Guru + Panduhara.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 2.112–114.

QUESTION 103 / 150

Mineral–Dosha matching

Match the substances with their properties in Rasa Ratna Samuccaya.
A. Vimala; B. Vaikranta; C. Manahsila; D. Rasaka.
1. Kapha-Vatahara; 2. Kapha-Pittahara; 3. Vata-Pittahara; 4. Sarva Dosahara.

Choose an answer for question 103
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. A3 B4 C1 D2

Vimala matches Vata–Pittahara; Vaikranta matches all three Doshas; Manahshila matches Kapha–Vatahara; and Rasaka matches Kapha–Pittahara. The matching is a textual classification, not an instruction to ingest these substances. The materials have distinct chemical identities and toxicological considerations.

Revision cue: Use Vimala3 and Rasaka2 as anchors, then complete the code.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, chapters 2–3, mineral properties.

QUESTION 104 / 150

Parada Dosha: Jadya, Adhmana, Kustha

Which Dosha of Parada causes Jadya, Adhmana and Kustha according to Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 104
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Yaugika

The text attributes this cluster to Yaugika defects associated with Naga and Vanga. Visa, Vahni and Mala are the separately enumerated natural defects. The important distinction is therefore the class of defect; recalling only that Parada has defects leaves all four options superficially plausible.

Revision cue: Naisargika and Yaugika defects are separate lists.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 11.19–23.

QUESTION 105 / 150

Madhuratraya

Which set is Madhuratraya according to Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 105
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Goghrta, Guda and Madhu

The defined triad is Ghrita, Guda and Makshika or Madhu. Sweet-tasting fruits do not enter this named triad merely because their taste is sweet. Group-name questions require the formal membership, rather than an improvised collection of substances sharing one property.

Revision cue: Madhuratraya: Ghrita + Guda + Madhu.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 10.70.

QUESTION 106 / 150

Grasa, Pinda and Parinama

Grasa, Pinda and Parinama are names associated with which process in Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 106
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Jarana

These names occur in the discussion of Jarana. They should be retained as process terminology rather than confused with Murcchana, Dipana or Rodhana, which denote different operations. Linking synonyms to a process diagram is usually more reliable than memorising a flat list of isolated technical words.

Revision cue: Jarana—Grasa, Pinda, Parinama.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 8.72–74.

QUESTION 107 / 150

Cullika Lavana

Which Dravya is known as Cullika Lavana in Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 107
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Navasara

Chullika Lavana is a synonym of Navasara. Common names involving the word Lavana can be misleading, since the materials called salts in classical Rasashastra are not all sodium chloride. Synonym questions should be anchored to the substance’s identity rather than its everyday category name.

Revision cue: Cullika Lavana—Navasara; distinguish it from common and rock salt.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya, Navasara synonyms.

QUESTION 108 / 150

Prajnabodhi

Which is said to be Prajnabodhi according to Rasa Ratna Samuccaya?

Choose an answer for question 108
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Abhraka Bhasma

Prajnabodhi occurs in the Abhraka description. The question asks for attribution of an epithet in a classical property list. It does not establish that a substance improves cognition in present-day clinical use; textual descriptions and evidence of efficacy are separate matters.

Revision cue: Abhraka is also referred to as Vyoma in Rasashastra verses.

Reference: Rasa Ratna Samuccaya 2.3.

QUESTION 109 / 150

Kakarastaka group

Which sets of herbs occur in the Kakarastaka group?
1. Kalinga, Kadali.
2. Kakamaci, Karkoti.
3. Karvella, Karkati.
4. Kangu, Kataka, Kalingaphala.

Choose an answer for question 109
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. 1, 2 and 3

The first three pairs belong to the commonly cited Kakarashtaka collection. The fourth set imports other Ka-initial names. The defining group is not simply every plant beginning with Ka; the established list must be distinguished from the broader Kakaradi terminology and from variant enumerations.

Revision cue: Shared initial letters do not establish group membership.

Caraka Mahakasaya matching

Match the actions with the drug sets.
A. Mutra Virajaniya; B. Mutra Virecaniya; C. Purisa Virajaniya; D. Purisa Samgrahaniya.
1. Jambu, Amra, Priyangu, Bharangi, Lajjalu.
2. Vasuka, Vasira, Darbha, Gundra.
3. Nalina, Priyangu, Yastimadhu, Utpala.
4. Kaccura, Madhuka, Utpala, Srivestaka.

Choose an answer for question 110
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. A3 B2 C4 D1

The matching is Mutra Virajaniya—set 3, Mutra Virechaniya—set 2, Purisha Virajaniya—set 4 and Purisha Samgrahaniya—set 1. Virajaniya concerns the relevant excretory appearance or colour, while Virechaniya concerns promoting elimination. Similar prefixes make this a category-discrimination question as much as an ingredient-recall question.

Revision cue: Mutra and Purisha are different targets; Virajaniya and Virechaniya are different actions.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 4, Mahakashaya groups.

QUESTION 111 / 150

Botanical name of Kodrava

What is the botanical name of Kodrava?

Choose an answer for question 111
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Paspalum scrobiculatum L.

Kodrava is kodo millet, Paspalum scrobiculatum. Hordeum vulgare is barley and Echinochloa frumentacea is associated with barnyard millet. Botanical-name questions are best revised as a three-way mapping of Sanskrit name, common crop name and botanical identity, so similar small millets are not interchanged.

Revision cue: Kodrava—kodo millet—Paspalum scrobiculatum.

Reference: Botanical identification of traditional cereals and millets. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 112 / 150

H2-blocker pharmacology

Which statements about H2-blockers are correct?
1. They directly affect lower oesophageal sphincter tone.
2. They suppress acid more completely than proton pump inhibitors.
3. They have no direct effect on lower oesophageal sphincter tone.
4. They can potentiate histamine-induced bronchospasm.

Choose an answer for question 112
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. 3 and 4

Statements 3 and 4 are the intended pharmacological pair. H2 antagonists suppress histamine-mediated gastric acid secretion without acting as a direct lower-oesophageal-sphincter stimulant, and PPIs usually provide stronger acid suppression. Blocking H2-mediated effects can potentiate histamine bronchoconstriction; this is a mechanistic observation, not a claim that bronchospasm occurs in every user.

Revision cue: Do not confuse acid suppression with a prokinetic effect.

Reference: Pharmacology: H2-receptor antagonists and comparison with proton pump inhibitors. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 113 / 150

Bhavaprakasa Saka Varga exception

Which Saka is not described in the Saka Varga of Bhavaprakasa Nighantu?

Choose an answer for question 113
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Yavani

Yavani is the exception in the group asked for. Potaki, Guduchi and Mandukaparni occur in the vegetable-group context. A plant’s inclusion in another medicinal group does not exclude discussion of its edible part elsewhere, so the exact Varga in the named Nighantu is what matters.

Revision cue: Nighantu questions require text + Varga + plant, not just the plant name.

Reference: Bhavaprakasha Nighantu, Shaka Varga. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 114 / 150

Pratighata Samarthya

According to Rasa Vaisesika, Pratighata Samarthyat characterises which category?

Choose an answer for question 114

Editorial discussion

A. Dravya

The ability to occupy space and offer physical resistance belongs to Dravya in this comparison. Rasa, Guna and Virya are attributes or functional descriptions dependent on a substance rather than independently occupying physical space in the same way. The question distinguishes the substratum from what inheres in it.

Revision cue: Dravya is the bearer; qualities are not independent material bodies.

B. Gunja

Shikhandi is a synonym of Gunja, Abrus precatorius. The same synonym is supported in the CCRAS Dravya database. Botanical synonyms can overlap or vary by source, so identify the plant explicitly. QUESTION 116 / 150

Common drug in Jvarahara and Sramahara

Which drug occurs in both Jvarahara Mahakasaya and Sramahara Mahakasaya of Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 116
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Draksa

Draksha is common to the two named groups. Kharjura and Ikshu belong in the fatigue-relieving list, while Sariva is a familiar member of the fever-relieving list. The task is the intersection of two lists; knowing that each distractor belongs somewhere in the chapter is not sufficient.

Revision cue: Build an overlap table when revising Mahakashaya groups.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 4, Jvarahara and Shramahara groups.

C. Vrksamla

Vrikshamla is included in the Hridya group. The grouping contains several sour fruits, but familiar beneficial properties of Amalaki do not automatically place it in every desirable-action group. The question asks for explicit membership of a defined ten-drug list.

Revision cue: Hridya Mahakashaya: learn the fruit list as a unit.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 4, Hridya Mahakashaya.

QUESTION 118 / 150

Sthira in Dasemani

Sthira occurs in which Dasemani of Caraka?

Choose an answer for question 118
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Balya and Vayahsthapana

Sthira, identified in this context with Shalaparni, is found in Balya and Vayasthapana. The question combines synonym recognition with group membership. First identify the plant behind the synonym and then check the two groups; otherwise the synonymous name can make a familiar plant appear unfamiliar.

Revision cue: Sthira/Shalaparni—Balya + Vayasthapana.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sutra Sthana 4, Balya and Vayasthapana groups.

QUESTION 119 / 150

Intravenous bioavailability

What is the bioavailability of a drug injected intravenously?

Choose an answer for question 119
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. 100%

Intravenous administration delivers the administered dose directly into systemic circulation, so its absolute bioavailability is defined as 100%. This does not mean the drug remains in plasma indefinitely: distribution and elimination begin after entry, but those processes do not change the definition of initial systemic availability.

Revision cue: Bioavailability is not the same as duration of action or tissue concentration.

Reference: Pharmacokinetics: definition of absolute bioavailability. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 120 / 150

Citraka: incorrect statement

Which statement is not correct regarding Citraka?

Choose an answer for question 120
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Citraka is Sirovirecaniya.

Shirovirechaniya is the incorrect attribution in this set. Chitraka is well known in the classical digestive and related therapeutic context, including Grahani and Krimi indications. Do not infer membership of a specific Shodhana group merely from a drug’s strong or heating properties.

Revision cue: A general property does not automatically imply every cleansing action.

QUESTION 121 / 150

Plant–family matching

Match the plants with the families as listed in the paper.
A. Kadamba; B. Ingudi; C. Chandrasura; D. Damanaka.
1. Asteraceae; 2. Simaroubaceae; 3. Rubiaceae; 4. Brassicaceae.

Choose an answer for question 121
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

C. A3 B2 C4 D1

C is the likely intended traditional matching: Kadamba—Rubiaceae, Ingudi—Simaroubaceae, Chandrasura—Brassicaceae and Damanaka—Asteraceae. The Ingudi family is a taxonomy issue: Kew currently places Balanites, including B. roxburghii, in Zygophyllaceae. Therefore the printed matching should not be reproduced as an unqualified current botanical classification.

Revision cue: Retain the exam’s likely code and the modern family correction together.

Reference: Kew Plants of the World Online: Balanites roxburghii.

Historical family attribution: no listed code gives the modern Ingudi family.

QUESTION 122 / 150

Incorrect Agrya pair

Which Agryadravya pair is not correctly matched as per Astanga Hrdaya?

Choose an answer for question 122
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Bhumyamalaki—Pliharoga

The Plihamaya pairing in Vagbhata’s Agrya verse is Pippali, not Bhumyamalaki. The other listed pairs correspond to the intended Agrya passage. This question reinforces Q24: recognising that one correct pair answers two differently worded questions makes revision more efficient.

Revision cue: Q24 and Q122 form a direct cross-check: Plihamaye Pippali.

Reference: Astanga Hrdaya, Uttara Sthana 40.48–51.

QUESTION 123 / 150

Gunja statements

Which statements about Gunja are correct?
1. The plant bears pinkish-purple inflorescence.
2. It has Kesya, Balya and Vrsya properties in the classical description.
3. Abrin is a non-poisonous constituent.

Choose an answer for question 123
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. 1 and 2 only

The first two statements are the intended botanical and classical-property descriptions. Abrin is a highly toxic constituent, making statement 3 false. Traditional action terms must not obscure the toxicological fact: Gunja seeds are hazardous, and identification of the plant is not a recommendation for unsupervised use.

Revision cue: Abrin is poisonous; never reverse that fact in a multiple-statement question.

Reference: CCRAS Dravya: Abrus precatorius.

Garbhasrava statements

Consider the statements.
1. In Amavastha of Garbhasrava, Sita and Ruksa Dravya are indicated; in Niramavastha, Sita and Snigdha Dravya are indicated.
2. Sita, Madhura and Mrdu Dravya are indicated for Garbhini.
Which are correct?

Choose an answer for question 124
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Both 1 and 2

Both statements fit the intended classical distinction. The first differentiates the Ama and Nirama states, while the second gives the general gentle, cooling and sweet framework used in the pregnancy discussion. These are traditional examination categories; bleeding during pregnancy requires clinical assessment rather than self-treatment from a revision note.

Revision cue: Keep the stage-specific distinction alongside the general pregnancy regimen.

Mrtagarbha: incorrect statements

Which statements about Mrtagarbha are not correct?
1. Atiusna and Atitiksna Dravya, anger, fear and grief are among the causes.
2. The abdomen feels very light.
3. There are uterine contractions and vaginal discharge.
4. There are no fetal movements.

Choose an answer for question 125
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. 2 and 3

Statements 2 and 3 are the intended incorrect descriptions in this classical distinction. The text’s retained-dead-fetus description emphasises absent movements and an abnormal heavy or still abdominal state, rather than the labour or expulsion cluster given in statement 3. Contemporary fetal-death diagnosis requires appropriate clinical and ultrasound confirmation.

Revision cue: Read “not correct” first; this question reverses the usual selection direction.

Reference: Prasuti Tantra: Mrtagarbha Lakshana. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 126 / 150

Sutikaparicarya by Desa

Which statements are correct?
1. In a Jangala Desa, Snehapana is advised with Pippalyadi Kasaya as Anupana.
2. In an Anupa Desa, Snehapana is initially advised in adequate quantity.

Choose an answer for question 126
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. 1 only

The dry-region instruction in statement 1 is the intended correct statement. The same initial unctuous regimen is not transferred unchanged to Anupa Desa. The question tests modification of postpartum care by environmental context rather than a uniform one-size regimen for all places.

Revision cue: Desa is a treatment modifier: Jangala and Anupa should not be interchanged.

Reference: Classical Sutika Paricharya: Jangala and Anupa Desa distinctions. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 127 / 150

Fatal Mudhagarbha conditions

According to Susruta, in which Mudhagarbha conditions will a pregnant woman die?
1. Garbhakosa Prasanga
2. Yonisrava
3. Makkala

Choose an answer for question 127
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. 1 and 2

The intended adverse prognostic combination is Garbhakosa Prasanga and Yonisrava. Makkala is not the selected fatal sign in this comparison. These are historical prognostic terms, not a basis for withholding modern emergency obstetric care; the MCQ asks for the source’s classification.

Revision cue: Keep the prognosis list distinct from conditions for which the text describes further treatment.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 10, obstetric complications.

QUESTION 128 / 150

Fourth month and fetal heart

Which statements are correct?
1. Navanita is advised in the fourth month of pregnancy.
2. The heart develops/manifests in the fourth month in the classical description.
3. The heart is formed from Rakta-Kapha Prasada.

Choose an answer for question 128
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

D. 1, 2 and 3

All three are the intended classical statements. The month-by-month regimen and the account of the fetal heart belong to the traditional embryological framework. The statement about the fourth month must not be represented as modern embryology: cardiac development and activity begin much earlier in contemporary developmental descriptions.

Revision cue: Classical month-wise description and modern embryological timing are different frameworks.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4; compare month-wise pregnancy regimen.

QUESTION 129 / 150

Upapluta: assertion and reason

Statement 1: According to Caraka, a pregnant woman with Upapluta Yonivyapad has Satodam asravam.
Statement 2: The cause of Upapluta Yonivyapad is Akala Pravahana.
Choose the correct relation.

Choose an answer for question 129
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. Statement 1 is true; statement 2 is false.

The discharge with pricking discomfort fits the Upapluta description. Untimely straining is not its stated cause in this pairing and belongs to another obstetric/gynecological context. In assertion–reason questions, establish the truth of each statement separately before assessing whether one explains the other.

Revision cue: Upapluta symptom statement: true; Akala Pravahana attribution: false.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 30, Upapluta Yonivyapad.

QUESTION 130 / 150

Mahabhuta–Vikara matching

Match according to Caraka.
A. Akasa; B. Vayu; C. Agni; D. Jala.
1. Dhatuvyuhana; 2. Viveka; 3. Mardavam; 4. Darsana.

Choose an answer for question 130
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

C. A2 B1 C4 D3

The matching is Akasa—Viveka or space/separation, Vayu—Dhatuvyuhana, Agni—Darshana, and Jala—Mardava. This is the same embryological allocation tested in Q1, now expanded to include visual function and softness. Solving the repeated Vayu pairing first provides a quick consistency check.

Revision cue: Use Q1 to verify B1 here.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 4.12.

QUESTION 131 / 150

Not a Sattvaja Bhava

Which Bhava is not included in Sattvaja Bhava in embryogenesis?

Choose an answer for question 131
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. Indriyaprasada

Indriyaprasada belongs to the Satmyaja list in this comparison. Bhakti, Shila and Tyaga are included among the mental or Sattvaja contributions. The term Sattva can have a broad ordinary meaning, but that does not override the specific Garbhakara-Bhava enumeration asked for here.

Revision cue: Satmyaja—Indriyaprasada; Sattvaja—Bhakti, Shila, Tyaga.

Reference: Caraka Samhita, Sharira Sthana 3.11–13.

QUESTION 132 / 150

Goksura Ghrita in pregnancy

In which pregnancy month is Goksura-sadhita Ghrta with milk or Yavagu indicated?

Choose an answer for question 132
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Sixth

The specified preparation is associated with the sixth month in the Susruta regimen. The month-wise sequence is the actual recall task, so a generally nourishing association with Ghrita cannot determine the answer. Retain both the drug and the month while revising the Garbhini Paricharya table.

Revision cue: Sixth month—Gokshura-sadhita Ghrita.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 10, sixth-month regimen.

QUESTION 133 / 150

Kusmanda Khanda

According to Yogaratnakara, Kusmanda Khanda is used for which condition?

Choose an answer for question 133
Reveal answer & explanation

Provisional text-specific answer

D. Somaroga

Somaroga is the intended named indication. Kushmanda occurs in several preparations with other indications, so this question must be answered from the complete preparation name and the stated text. Do not substitute the broader uses of Kushmanda Avaleha from another author for this Khanda reference.

Revision cue: Kushmanda Khanda in Yogaratnakara—Somaroga.

Reference: Yogaratnakara, Somaroga Chikitsa, Kushmanda Khanda. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Text-specific Khanda reference requires confirmation against the complete edition.

QUESTION 134 / 150

Breast abscess resembling ripe Udumbara

According to Susruta, in which breast-abscess type does the breast resemble a ripe Udumbara fruit?

Choose an answer for question 134
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Pittaja

The ripe-Udumbara comparison is the intended Pittaja description. The appearance, colour and inflammatory character help distinguish it from the other Dosha types. In classical simile-based questions, preserve the disease and the Dosha with the comparison; the same fruit analogy may be used differently in another disease.

Revision cue: Simile + disease + Dosha is the complete recall unit.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Nidana Sthana, Stana Vidradhi descriptions. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 135 / 150

Shape of Yoni

According to Susruta, what is the shape of Yoni?

Choose an answer for question 135
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Sankhanabhyakrti

Shankhanabhyakriti is the classical comparison: an appearance likened to the internal configuration of a conch. This is descriptive traditional anatomy, not a literal modern anatomical model. The question tests recognition of the author’s simile rather than a new inference about organ shape.

Revision cue: Yoni—Shankhanabhyakriti.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sharira Sthana 5, reproductive anatomy.

QUESTION 136 / 150

Second-trimester miscarriage association

Which is the most common cause of second-trimester miscarriage among the supplied examination choices?

Choose an answer for question 136
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

C. Cervical incompetence

Cervical insufficiency is the conventional examination answer, especially for recurrent, relatively painless mid-trimester loss. The broad claim “most common” is context-dependent: second-trimester losses have several fetal, uterine, placental and infectious causes. A real case cannot be assigned this cause from gestational age alone.

Revision cue: Cervical insufficiency is the classic recurrent painless mid-trimester-loss association.

Reference: Obstetrics: cervical insufficiency and differential diagnosis of second-trimester loss. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Broadly worded stem: C is the conventional exam association, not a universal epidemiological rule.

QUESTION 137 / 150

Klumpke’s palsy: defective options

Which nerve roots are involved in Klumpke’s palsy?
The original options are reproduced below.

Choose an answer for question 137
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

No exact correct option in the printed choices.

The standard anatomical answer is the lower trunk of the brachial plexus, C8–T1. None of the printed options states that pair exactly. Option D includes the two relevant roots but also adds C7, so it should not silently be presented as anatomically exact. This item is excluded from the practice score pending an authoritative key.

Revision cue: Correct concept: Klumpke—C8–T1; Erb—classically C5–C6.

Reference: Brachial plexus anatomy: lower-trunk injury in Klumpke palsy. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Defective options: no exact correct option. Do not force C7–C8–T1 as the standard root pair.

QUESTION 138 / 150

Threatened miscarriage presentation

Which type of miscarriage presents with slight vaginal bleeding and mild backache or dull lower-abdominal pain?

Choose an answer for question 138
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Threatened

The description is most consistent with threatened miscarriage in the intended comparison. In a complete assessment, a closed cervical os, ultrasound findings and fetal status help distinguish it from inevitable or incomplete miscarriage. The limited symptom list alone cannot establish viability or exclude an ectopic pregnancy in practice.

Revision cue: Threatened miscarriage: bleeding with a closed os; confirm the clinical picture appropriately.

Reference: Obstetrics: classification and assessment of early-pregnancy bleeding. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 139 / 150

Klinefelter syndrome

Which characterises Klinefelter’s syndrome?

Choose an answer for question 139
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Karyotype 47,XXY or 48,XXXY

The classic karyotype is 47,XXY; related higher-grade sex-chromosome aneuploidies such as 48,XXXY may be discussed in the spectrum, although their phenotypes can be distinct. The 45,X option belongs to Turner syndrome. Recognising the extra X chromosome in a male is the central discriminator.

Revision cue: Klinefelter—usually 47,XXY; Turner—45,X.

Reference: Medical genetics: sex-chromosome aneuploidies. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 140 / 150

Contraception and STI protection

Which contraceptive method provides protection against sexually transmitted infections?

Choose an answer for question 140
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Barrier methods

Condoms, within the barrier-method category, reduce the risk of many sexually transmitted infections when used correctly and consistently. The wording should not be extended to every barrier device: a diaphragm or cervical cap is not equivalent STI protection. IUCDs and hormonal methods prevent pregnancy but do not provide that protection.

Revision cue: For STI protection, specify condoms rather than every barrier device.

Reference: WHO/CDC contraceptive guidance: condoms and STI risk reduction. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Shalya Tantra

Questions 141–150 · Read the author and context before deciding.

QUESTION 141 / 150

Volvulus: torsion and obstruction

Which statements are correct in the paper’s conventional volvulus comparison?
1. 180° torsion causes vascular occlusion.
2. More than 180° torsion causes luminal obstruction.
3. Less than 180° torsion causes luminal obstruction.
4. More than 360° torsion causes vascular occlusion.

Choose an answer for question 141
Reveal answer & explanation

Question / evidence qualification

C. 2 and 4

Statements 2 and 4 are the intended textbook pair: luminal obstruction is associated with substantial twisting, with vascular compromise at greater torsion. These angular thresholds are teaching simplifications, not dependable clinical safety cutoffs. Ischemia depends on the anatomy, tightness, duration and vascular involvement of the twist.

Revision cue: Do not use a degree threshold to rule out bowel ischemia in practice.

Reference: Surgery: volvulus, closed-loop obstruction and vascular compromise. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

Angle thresholds are an examination convention; actual vascular compromise is not determined by angle alone.

QUESTION 142 / 150

Krmikustha-prasamana Gana

“Krmikusthaprasamano visesad vranasodhanah” refers to which Gana in Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 142
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

B. Arkadi

The quotation is associated with Arkadi Gana. The particular combination of Krimi, Kushtha and wound-cleansing actions distinguishes the group. Several Ganas share individual actions, so choosing from one word such as Krimi without the rest of the description can lead to an incorrect group.

Revision cue: Arkadi—remember the combined action phrase.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 38, Arkadi Gana. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 143 / 150

Sastrakarma matching

Match according to Susruta.
A. Lekhana; B. Esana; C. Visravana; D. Sivana.
1. Calasandhi Vrana; 2. Slipada; 3. Unmargi Vrana; 4. Vartmaroga.

Choose an answer for question 143
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

A. A4 B3 C2 D1

Lekhana matches Vartmaroga, Eshana matches an abnormal-track wound, Visravana matches Shlipada, and Sivana matches a wound at a mobile joint in this list. Translate the operative action first—scraping, probing, draining or suturing—and then check the disease pairing and code.

Revision cue: Solving the action verb before the code reduces matching errors.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 25, eight surgical procedures.

QUESTION 144 / 150

Yantra for Gudhasalya

Which Yantra is ideal for removing Gudhasalya according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 144
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

A. Kankamukha

Kankamukha is the intended instrument for a concealed or deeply situated foreign body in this comparison. Susruta differentiates instruments by their working-end form and purpose. The question therefore requires a particular instrument–task association, not simply recognition that the alternatives all sound like animal-inspired instruments.

Revision cue: Kankamukha—Gudha Shalya extraction.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 7, Yantra description.

QUESTION 145 / 150

Wound-room fumigation schedule

For a wounded person, what duration and frequency of fumigation with Sarsapa and Arista leaves, ghee and salt is described by Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 145
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Dasaratra, Dvirahna

The classical schedule is ten nights/days with twice-daily fumigation. The question combines two numerical facts, duration and frequency, so either one alone cannot identify the code. This is a historical wound-care instruction and should not be substituted for current infection-control or wound-treatment practice.

Revision cue: Dasaratra + Dvirahna = ten-day period, twice daily.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 19, care of the wounded.

QUESTION 146 / 150

Praklinna wound in Sataponaka

According to Susruta, what explains Praklinna Vrana in Sataponaka Bhagandara?

Choose an answer for question 146
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

B. Mutrasayabhyasagatatvat

The text explains the moist or discharging character through proximity to the urinary bladder region. A retained foreign body belongs to a different etiological pattern, while itching does not provide the specific anatomical explanation sought here. Read the question as one about the cited pathogenesis of a fistula subtype.

Revision cue: Sataponaka—remember the proximity explanation, not a retained-foreign-body mechanism.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Nidana Sthana 4, Shataponaka Bhagandara.

QUESTION 147 / 150

Not an ideal Ksara property

According to Astanga Sangraha, which is not a property of Ksara?

Choose an answer for question 147
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Visarpi

Visarpi is the exception among these choices. The ideal preparation is described with controlled action, and the familiar desirable-property list includes whiteness, prompt action and the Shikhari characteristic. Do not reverse a negative qualification about unwanted spread or discharge into a desirable positive property.

Revision cue: Careful reading of negation is essential in ideal-Kshara property lists.

Reference: Compare Astanga Hrdaya, Sutra Sthana 30.24–25; the question attributes the list to Astanga Sangraha.

QUESTION 148 / 150

Asmari Purvarupa exception

According to Yogaratnakara, which is not a Purvarupa of Asmari?

Choose an answer for question 148
Reveal answer & explanation

Editorial discussion

C. Ajirna

Ajirna is the exception in this set. Urinary difficulty, loss of appetite and fever belong to the traditional prodromal description being tested. The question is about a named Purvarupa list; general digestive symptoms that can accompany many illnesses should not be added to it without textual support.

Revision cue: Asmari: distinguish the enumerated prodromes from nonspecific accompanying complaints.

Reference: Yogaratnakara, Ashmari Nidana, Purvarupa. (text reference; independent passage check pending)

QUESTION 149 / 150

Depth of cautery

“Ruksarunata, karkasa-sthira-vranata” describes which Dagdha according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 149
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Sandhyasthi Dagdha

A dry reddish appearance with a hard, rough wound corresponds to cauterisation involving joints and bone in the described classification. The text gives different appearances for skin, flesh and neurovascular structures. The depth-specific features should not be confused with the separate fourfold classification of accidental burns.

Revision cue: Two classifications: tissue depth of cautery versus degree/type of burn.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Sutra Sthana 12, tissue-specific cautery signs.

QUESTION 150 / 150

Vislista Sandhimukta exception

Which is not a symptom of Vislista Sandhimukta according to Susruta?

Choose an answer for question 150
Reveal answer & explanation

Reference-checked discussion

D. Angavaisamya

Vishlishta is described with slight swelling, continuing pain and impaired joint function. Unevenness or deformity is associated with another dislocation pattern in the comparison, so Angavaishamya is the exception. This is a classification question: the general features of all dislocations should not overwrite a subtype’s specific signs.

Revision cue: Vishlishta—little swelling + persistent pain + disturbed function.

Reference: Susruta Samhita, Nidana Sthana 15.5.

Frequently asked questions

Which posts used the UPSC Ayurveda 2025 common question paper?

The paper covers 9 Medical Officer (Ayurveda) posts in the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Puducherry, and 4 Ayurvedic Physician posts in NDMC, linked to advertisements 05/2025 and 07/2025.

How many questions and marks are in the paper?

Booklet A contains 150 objective questions. The printed duration is two hours and the maximum is 300 marks. All questions carry equal marks.

What is the negative marking?

A wrong answer loses one-third of the marks assigned to that question. With 2 marks per question, the deduction is 2/3 mark. An unanswered question has no penalty.

Is this the official UPSC Ayurveda answer key?

No. This page contains CrackTarget editorial answers and explanations. A matching official 2025 key was not located during the check on 25 October 2026. Provisional, qualified and defective items are identified individually.

Why does the practice score show 274 rather than 300 marks?

The original paper has 300 marks. This practice tool excludes 13 items with provisional answers, important qualifications or defective options, leaving 137 scored questions and 274 eligible marks. It does not simulate any unverified official deletion or key decision.

Can I use these answer letters for another booklet series?

Compare the question text and the printed option order first. The letters here follow Series A of the supplied YAMN-P-AVD booklet; another series may have a different question sequence.

Does the page save my answers?

When JavaScript and browser storage are available, the tool saves responses, bookmarks, review flags and the timer in the same browser. This does not sync between devices. You can export your attempt or reset it locally.

How should I revise from this solved paper?

Attempt first, review the explanation, follow a relevant CrackTarget concept link, and write one short correction for each error. Re-attempt your saved and incorrect questions after a gap, keeping provisional items separate from settled concepts.

Sources and editorial method

The supplied UPSC scan is the source for question order, options and examination instructions. Explanations use the named classical texts, their accessible primary-text editions/translations, and selected authoritative medical or botanical references. A linked chapter identifies the reference context; only cards explicitly marked reference-checked claim a direct passage comparison. Unlinked text references remain editorial references for further checking. Verse numbering and transliterations may differ by edition.

The paper has been transcribed in readable English with Sanskrit terms retained. It is not a replacement for the original bilingual booklet. When a question’s premises differ from current anatomy, taxonomy or clinical evidence, the explanation states the distinction. Historical procedures and formulations are described for examination study only.
