UPSC EPFO Cut Off — Year-wise & Category-wise (EO/AO & APFC)

Official UPSC Recruitment Test, Interview suitability and Final Selection cut-offs compiled from Commission PDFs — with scale warnings so you never mix 100-mark and 300-mark cycles.

Official UPSC PDFs EO/AO + APFC 2016–2023 cycles Last updated October 2026
2026 = APFC only: UPSC Special Advertisement No. 52/2026 notifies only Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) posts (80 vacancies; RT on 20 December 2026). There is no Enforcement Officer/Accounts Officer (EO/AO) vacancy in the 2026 cycle. All EO/AO figures on this page relate to past cycles (latest: Advt. 52/2025, 156 posts).

Quick Facts

  • Latest published final cut-offs: 2023 cycle (Advt. 51/2023) for both EO/AO (418 posts) and APFC (159 posts).
  • 2023 EO/AO RT (out of 300): UR/OBC 138.33 · EWS 134.18 · SC 123.33 · ST 120.00.
  • 2023 APFC RT (out of 300): UR/OBC 178.33 · EWS 176.68 · SC 156.68 · ST 151.68.
  • Do not compare raw: 2017 EO/AO used a 100-mark RT with 50:50 weightage; 2016 APFC used 100-mark RT with 75:25 weightage.
  • 2025 cycle (Advt. 52/2025): RT held 30.11.2025; written results and interview-stage scrutiny notices issued in 2026. UPSC releases the category-wise cut-off only after the recruitment process is complete.

1. How UPSC EPFO cut-offs work

UPSC publishes cut-off information after a recruitment case is completed (or shares RT cut-offs with selection stats). For modern EPFO exams you usually see three rows:

  • Recruitment Test — minimum suitability marks out of 300 (recent pattern).
  • Interview — category-wise minimum suitability out of 100 (UR/EWS 50, OBC 45, SC/ST/PwBD 40 in recent notifications).
  • Final Selection — combined score out of 400 after applying 75:25 weightage.
Rule of thumb: Always read the PDF header for vacancy number, post name and “out of” marks. Mixing EO/AO with APFC, or 2021 with 2017, is the #1 mistake on aggregator sites.

UR and OBC sharing the same RT cut-off (138.33) shows how vacancy geometry and the reserved-against-unreserved (RAUV) dynamics can compress category gaps at the written stage even when final cut-offs diverge after interview.

3. UPSC EPFO APFC Cut Off 2023 (Advt. 51/2023 — 159 vacancies)

Source: UPSC Cut-off PDF for Vacancy No. 23025102725. Vacancies: UR 68, EWS 16, OBC 38, SC 25, ST 12 (PwBD 8 within). Candidates appeared: 3,59,553.

*Interview suitability for PwBD follows the notification’s relaxed standard (typically 40). Highest marks reported in the same PDF reached above 300 in the final composite for top General candidates — confirming that interview performance still moves ranks inside the shortlist.

APFC vs EO/AO gap (2023 UR RT): 178.33 − 138.33 = 40 marks on the 300-mark scale. That is roughly a 13-percentage-point tougher written bar for APFC in the same year—plan mocks accordingly if you are targeting both.

4. UPSC EPFO EO/AO Cut Off 2021 (Advt. 51/2020 — 421 vacancies)

Source: UPSC cut-off communication dated 24.11.2022 for Vacancy No. 20015101411. RT marks out of 300; Interview out of 100; Final out of 400; weightage 75:25. Candidates appeared: 2,30,820.

Notice how the 2021 EO/AO UR RT cut-off (187.39) was higher than the 2023 APFC UR RT cut-off (178.33). Vacancy count, paper difficulty and candidate pool quality matter more than the post label alone.

Final marks in the 2016 APFC PDF are on a scaled composite consistent with 75:25 weighting (not a raw 200-mark add). Do not convert 66.5/100 into a 300-mark equivalent by simple multiplication without understanding normalisation—UPSC does not publish a conversion key for aspirants.

6. Trend analysis — what the numbers teach

Written stage volatility

EO/AO UR RT swung from 187.39 (2021) to 138.33 (2023) on the same 300-mark framework — a ~49-mark drop. Paper toughness and vacancies (421 → 418, similar) imply difficulty/attempt-quality drove the change more than seat count.

Interview still decides ranks

Minimum interview suitability is fixed, but final cut-offs show wide spreads above that floor. A candidate clearing RT with a thin margin needs a strong interview to stay safe; a high RT scorer can absorb a mediocre interview more easily under 75:25.

  • Target buffer: Aim 15–25 marks above the previous UR RT cut-off for your post in mocks after negative marking.
  • Same-day dual papers: When EO/AO and APFC share a Combined RT (as in 2025), cut-offs still diverge by post at shortlisting—prepare for the tougher APFC bar if you applied for both.
  • PwBD rows: Always use the specific subcategory cut-off from the PDF; “PH” is not one number.

7. 2025–2026 cycle status (no final cut-off yet)

  • Advt. 52/2025 (past cycle): 156 EO/AO + 74 APFC; Combined RT on 30 November 2025.
  • EO/AO written result: Provisional shortlist notice dated 22 December 2025 (Vacancy 25075201726). Marks to be uploaded only after completion of recruitment process (as stated in the notice).
  • Scrutiny: UPSC’s EO/AO scrutiny instructions list 458 candidates shortlisted for interview and a further 116 provisionally, with representations accepted until 31 July 2026.
  • Final result / cut-off PDF: issued by UPSC after interviews; the 2025 cycle’s cut-offs will appear on UPSC’s Cut-off Marks page once the case is closed.
  • Advt. 52/2026: APFC-only recruitment (80 vacancies; no EO/AO post notified in 2026); RT scheduled 20 December 2026. Separate cut-off will follow after that case concludes.

Side-by-side: EO/AO vs APFC modern cycles

Use this master comparison when coaching sites paste a single “EPFO cut off” without naming the post. All modern figures below are out of 300 (RT) / 400 (Final).

Common cut-off mistakes (and how CrackTarget avoids them)

  • Post mix-up: Quoting APFC 178.33 as “EPFO cut off” for EO/AO aspirants inflates fear and distorts mock targets.
  • Scale mix-up: Treating 2017’s 49.50/100 as comparable to 138.33/300.
  • Stage mix-up: Comparing a Final/400 number with an RT/300 number.
  • Expected cut-off clickbait: Pre-exam “expected” lists are opinions. This page privileges UPSC PDFs and clearly labels unverified 2025 figures.
  • Ignoring negative marking: A raw attempt of 120 questions means nothing until you model +1 / −1/3 behaviour on the actual mark scheme.

Vacancy pressure vs cut-off

Large vacancy cycles can still produce high cut-offs if the paper is scoring. Conversely, a tougher paper with similar vacancies can crush cut-offs—as EO/AO showed between 2021 and 2023. Track three variables together: vacancies, appeared candidates, and paper difficulty proxies (your mock percentile vs previous keys).

CyclePostsAppeared (RT)Approx. applicants per post
2023 EO/AO4183,60,978~864
2023 APFC1593,59,553~2,262
2021 EO/AO4212,30,820~548

APFC’s applicants-per-post density in 2023 was roughly 2.6× that of EO/AO in the same advertisement family—one structural reason the APFC bar sits higher even before syllabus depth is considered.

  1. Take a diagnostic mock → locate your gap vs the UR RT of your target post.
  2. Prioritise high-yield EPFO areas: labour codes/social security, accounts basics, polity, economy, quant DI.
  3. Build a weekly error log; negative marking punishes random guesses more than blanks.
  4. In the last 4–6 weeks, sit full 2-hour tests only—sectional quizzes alone under-prepare stamina.
  5. After RT, shift 30–40% time to interview: EPFO structure, recent social-security reforms, your DAF.

9. FAQs

What was the UPSC EPFO EO/AO cut off in 2023?

Recruitment Test cut-offs (out of 300) were UR/OBC 138.33, EWS 134.18, SC 123.33 and ST 120.00. Final cut-offs (out of 400) were UR 212.83, OBC 205.83, EWS 195.83, SC 184.50 and ST 180.33, as per the UPSC sharing-of-information PDF for Advt. 51/2023.

What was the UPSC EPFO APFC cut off in 2023?

RT cut-offs (out of 300): UR/OBC 178.33, EWS 176.68, SC 156.68, ST 151.68. Final (out of 400): UR 257.50, OBC 246.18, EWS 241.83, SC 224.33, ST 230.83.

Why is the 2017 cut-off much lower numerically?

Because the 2017 EO/AO Recruitment Test was scored out of 100 with 50:50 weightage versus interview—not out of 300 with 75:25. Comparing 49.50 with 138.33 without scale context is incorrect.

Has UPSC released the 2025 EPFO cut off?

As of the October 2026 research pass for this page, the 2025 cycle has written shortlists and scrutiny activity, but the category-wise cut-off PDF is expected after the recruitment process is completed. Check upsc.gov.in Cut-off Marks / Final Results sections.

Is interview cut-off the same every year?

Recent notifications repeatedly fix interview suitability at UR/EWS 50, OBC 45, SC/ST/PwBD 40 out of 100. The Commission can specify standards in each advertisement—always read the latest Appendix.

Is there an EPFO EO/AO (Accounts Officer) vacancy in 2026?

No. UPSC Special Advertisement No. 52/2026 notifies only APFC posts (80 vacancies). There is no EO/AO vacancy in the 2026 cycle. The most recent EO/AO recruitment was Advt. 52/2025 (156 posts, Combined RT on 30 November 2025); EO/AO data on CrackTarget pages refers to such past cycles.
